Guidelines and General Effluent Standards of 2016 for Class C Inland Waters.

Treatment Advantages:

1. Compliance to the new DAO - 2021 - 19

2. Design Flexibility / Upgradeable
3. Small equipment area requirements.
4. Low Maintenance.
5. Easy to operate.
6. Minimal Sludge Production.
7. No introduction of ENZYME & BACTERIA on its treatment.
None ELECTRO-COAGULATION ( cost of HIGH ELECTRIC CONSUMPTION)

III. System Overview

The Proposed system for 500m3 is a hybrid system a combination of biological and non-biological
treatment to obtain best result. System is divided into three (3) stages:

a) Preliminary Treatment
 Wherein the removal of Grit and larger solid occurs
 Fat, Oil and Grease Management
 Holding and Cooling of wastewater; considering 60% of wastewater has a temperature of 80 degrees
Celsius and 40% has a temperature of 30degrees Celsius
 Collecting and Holding influent Prior to the next treatment Process

b) Secondary Treatment
 Activated Sudge Process
 Excess Sludge Management
 Nutrient Removal

c) Tertiary Treatment
 Additional Organic Removal
 Improvement of Waste water quality
 Odor removal
 Additional Nutrient Removal

IV. Treatment Process

1. Waste water with a heavy used of Fat, Oil and Grease will be at the FOG separator which is a conventional
type of FOG separation this is for the following purposes:
 Avoid clogging of pipeline
 Minimize FOG at the EQT basin
 Removal of excess skum
 To Avoid FOG to congeal and form deposits on the surface of settling tanks, digesters, pipes, pumps
and sensors.
 Avoid grease at the digester, Grease is more difficult to biologically degrade than other common
components.

2. All incoming waste water will pass Thru Bar Screening for the removal of larger solids this is for the
following purposes:
 Avoid Pump and other mechanical equipment clogging
 Lessen skum
 Removal of larger organics to decrease BOD

3. All Influent will be at the Equalization Tank (EQT). In EQT, more time will take to cool down the wastewater.
The influent will be collected at the Equalization Tank which will serve as a buffer of the whole system. It
has diffusers at the bottom for pre-aeration. This process is conducted in order to add oxygen, helps
freshen the wastewater, and mixes it to keep the solids in suspension.
Equalization Tank

Tank Design
 No of tanks = 2
 Tank Total Depth = 4m
 Design Water Level = 3.5m
 Decant Depth 50% of Full Depth = 1.4m
 SVI = 150mL/g
 Ammonia oxidized (Nox) = 80% of TKN
 Total Tank Volume = 126 m³
 Total Discharge per cycle = 63 m³

SBR Operating Cycle

Considering two tanks in simultaneous operation, one tank is in fill period while the second tank is operating in react,
settling and decant cycles.

 Filling = 30mins
 React /Aeration = 2hrs
 Mixing = 30mins
 Settling = 30mins
 Decant = 30mins
 Total = 4hrs
 Discharge per Cycle per SBRT = 63m³

6. Influent will be redirected to the static mixer by centrifugal pump to be injected with ozone.

Advantages of using Ozone for Water Treatment

a) Inactivation of viruses.
b) Can be used for pesticide removal in water.
c) Ozone acts as an effective deodorizer and will eliminate unpleasant odors from the treated water.
d) There is no re-growth of microorganism when using ozone disinfection.
e) The treatment process does not add chemicals to water.
f) Chemical water treatment leaves long term chemical effects on environment, some of which are
negative. Ozone does not.
g) Unlike chlorine, ozone leaves no harmful chlorinated by-products in the water. Ozone quickly reverts
back to pure oxygen if unused.
h) Ozone oxidation reactions take place several thousand times faster than those of chlorine and other
chemicals for destruction of bacteria, viruses, yeast, molds, cysts, mildew, and most other organic and
inorganic contaminants.
i) Ozone is generated on site and does not require storage.
j) You cannot overdose with ozone as unused ozone escapes out of the water and reverts to oxygen
k) Ozone in appropriate doses can treat all water borne pathogens.
l) Ozone oxidizes and destroys oils and other contaminants in water.
m) Ozone acts as a micro-flocculent, aiding in the removal of minerals such as iron and manganese

7. After injected with Ozone influent will pass thru UV light for the following purposes.
 To kill or inactive microorganism by destroying nucleic acids and disrupting their DNA, leaving them
unable to perform vital cellular functions. It produces strong enough UV-C light in circulating water
system to make them inhospitable environment to microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, molds
and other pathogens.
 Also to produce hydroxyl radicals with a very high oxidation property making organics and some
inorganic insoluble to the waste water for faster removal via settling or filtration
8. Influent will now be subjected to the Filtration system.
 Influent will now be subjected to Filtration with the use of centrifugal pumps. Coagulated small
particles will be separated by filtration
 Multi Stage Depth Filtration - This process will further enhance the physical quality of waste water
by improving the turbidity of the water.
 Granular Activated Carbon - This process intensifies the removal of remaining organic chemicals
and reduces the toxicity in waste water. It is highly effective for odor removal and for the
treatment of soluble organic chemicals, endocrine disruptors and other contaminants of emerging
concerns.
 Aiding in the removal of Flouride, Chloride, TSS, Nitrate, Iron and Surfactants.

Excess Sludge Management

o Process using activated sludge periodicaly needed to be maintain in every SBRT tank WAS Pump were
installed redirecting excess sludge to the Aerobic Sludge Digester (ASD). This process help SBRT to reduce
excessive sludge production.
o Aerobic Sludge Digester - the degradation of the organic sludge solids in the presence of oxygen. The
oxygen is introduced as fine bubbles of air into the reactor. The micro-organisms in the sludge convert the
organic material to carbon dioxide and water, and the ammonia and amino species to nitrate.
o Sludge Cake or the treated sludge will be lift at the drying bed to be dried and the filtrate will go back to the
Lift Station for reprocess.
