make a moon
What you need
• Aluminum foil
• Card-stock or recycle a cardboard box
• Something round for tracing, like a plate or a storage container lid
• Small round things such as coins, small wheels, milk tops, hair ties, or anything else you
can find that is small and circular
• Scissors
• Glue
• Gray and black pastels (optional)
• An adult to help if needed
What to do
1. Trace a circle on your foil using something round as a template.
2. Trace a circle on your card-stock or cardboard that is the same size as the circle you
traced on your foil.
3. Cut out your foil and card-stock circles.
4. Arrange the round objects that you gathered onto your card-stock/cardboard circle
5. Place the foil over the objects.
6. Using your finger, gently rub around the edges of your circular items to reveal the
craters of your moon
7. Remove the circular items from the card-stock/cardboard.
8. Glue your foil to the card-stock/cardboard
9. (Optional) Gently rub the pastels over the moon to give it more depth.
Hang up your moon and enjoy your artwork.

make a rocket
What you need
• An adult to help you (this is not optional)
• Empty plastic bottle
• Distilled white vinegar
• Baking soda
• Cork
• Wooden sticks or pencils
• Duct tape
• Scissors
• Funnel
• Measuring spoon
• Paper towels
What to do
1. Make sure that you are outside with an adult to help you.
2. Before you start, make sure your cork fits the bottle well.
If it doesn’t, you can use duct tape later to help it fit better.
3. Make your ‘launch pad’ by taping 3 sticks evenly around the
bottle to make a stand. Make sure that the opening of the
bottle is on the bottom and about an inch up from the bottom
of the pencils. (figure 1)
4. Fill your bottle halfway up with vinegar.
5. Make a ‘time release’ backing soda packet by placing 1
heaping tablespoon of baking soda into the middle of
a paper towel. Fold and roll up the paper towel so that the
packet is small enough to fit into the bottle and the baking
soda is inside and not exposed at all. If the packet breaks,
make a new one.
6. Place the backing soda into the bottle and close it with the
Figure 1 cork quickly. (use duct tape if needed)
7. Turn it over so it stands on the launching pad and is facing up
and away from anyone, and quickly step away from it.
