General Notes:
◼ Emotionless with delivery of lines. Monotone/ Plain reading like delivery.
◼ Doesn’t use set/ Table/ Body enough.
◼ Not comfortable with lines yet. ( Pauses and Emphasis in wrong areas
and lack of Emphasis in other areas.)
◼ Ms. Hadley Commentary: Needs to work on her facial expressions and
dramatize her facial expressions, Body language and delivery on
sarcastic emotions and when talking towards audience loses words..
◼ These Notes are very detailed so Wednesday should show visible
improvement.
Lines and Scenes:
Nancy and Clown
CLOWN. (staring at the bell, stepping closer to Laura.)
Sweetie( Cautiously, like how you would talk when trying to
comfort someone ), look at me(Immediate Mood change with
a Serious tone, Very Stotic).
(gestures wildly to herself in her clown outfit)
Does this look like a loveless life to you(sassy)? I’m not dead,
(pointing it out and listing ->)I’m not alone, I JUST NEED
MY DAUGHTER—and sure I make some very questionable
decisions. But- But (thinking of a excuse like tone with a but
but.) (stops to think of an excuse)
CLOWN. (realisation like reaction before speaking then
nagging tone)You don’t need to ring bells or make grand
speeches about running out of time. Life’s too short for that!
It’s okay to suck at dating, or to mess things up a bit, or to not
have all the answers(Comforting like a mom). I don’t have
them either(trying to be relatable, think like if someone is
telling you they mark and its “bad” your going to be trying to
comfort them and say it’s a good mark or “that’s not bad” a
tone like that. Keep tone throughout the rest of the lines here.)
, and look at me—I’m thriving!
CLOWN.(nodding)
I get it. I really do. But sweetie I AM YOUR MOTHER this is
the only time in YEARS you’ve talked to me and YOUR
DAD is to busy to give me ATTENTION, IS IT TOO MUCH
TO ASK TO BE LOVED(Whining)!
CLOWN. Well, this is just fantastic, isn’t it(Sacrastic and
snarky)? Another night, another table for one(it’s a how did I
end up here again tone have you ever done a mistake again
and you like how am I here again its like that). So, how many
of us are here just to “facilitate”(nagging) things while
everyone else gets paired up like it’s some kind of weird
speed-dating lottery(angry and In a “am I missing something”
tone)? Because I’ll tell ya, it sure ain’t me.
CLOWN. Oh, little Gumdrop, trust me.(mother tone
throughout -> also gradually becoming more emotion but
sassy) You’re not alone. I had to dress like this just to get a
little attention from my OWN kid. She’s too busy
“facilitating”( Roll you eyes while having extreme air quotes
and mock her) her own little world to even remember that I
exist.
CLOWN. Oh, don’t even get me started. I show up as a
clown, thinking I’ll at least get a "Hey, Mom, that’s kinda
sweet!" But no, she’s too busy pretending to be “busy” with
her “round robin” of dates to even acknowledge that I exist.
Can you believe it?( gradually emotional start sounding like
you about to cry.)
(CLOWN Mimes being trap in a box)
This is my life now(Tearing up like voice with the how I get
here tone again for the whole line), Nancy! Stuck in a box of
my own making, pretending I don’t care... but deep down?
Deep down, I just want my daughter to look at me and say, “I
see you, Mom. I see you trying.”
CLOWN. Listen, honey, you can’t just sit here and wait for
the world to give you everything you want. Love, attention,
affection...
(CLOWN Starts to tear up again calling “Laura’ s”name,
then collects her self after ready the room)
it’s all about making the most out of your weird little
moments. You think you’re alone? Well, we’re all alone in
this, darling. But that’s the beauty of it. We don’t need anyone
to make us feel validated... we just need to keep showing up.
(CLOWN Hands nancy a flower)
CLOWN. See(DRAGG it out and use your hands like seeee
what I mean)? You’re not the problem. The world’s the
problem. You just gotta stop waiting for someone else to
notice and start noticing yourself.(empowering/motivation use
you hands to gesture everyone and yourself either by pointing
around then pointing at nancy and dragging the point to you
heart changing it to a fist or something else.)
CLOWN. The trap, darling! That’s what we’re in! Trapped
by our own expectations! You wait around for love to happen,
but that’s not how it works! You gotta make it happen! Break
out of the box and just go for it!
