General information about the classes
Combination of lectures and tutorials
Lectures on Design of Experiments (DoE) include highly structured content, which is why
frontal teaching is used as the main teaching method.
To make the lessons interactive nevertheless, you will participate in tutorials after the lecture
during which you apply the topics covered in class.
In the tutorials, you will work on your solution to exercises, which you can complete then or by
yourself afterwards. For some exercises you will use the R/RStudio software.
Be sure to bring your laptop with a working version of R/RStudio to the tutorials.
Instructions for the installation were given in the Classical and Bayesian Statistics module.
Nature of the tutorials
The tutorials provide plenty of opportunities to discuss solutions within your group.
They are supervised by the lecturers and assistants. If there is enough time, you can also ask
questions regarding all previous lectures and exercises.
You will work in groups to make the tutorials more efficient; in other words, you can ask ques-
tions and exchange ideas with the lecturers and assistants while working on exercises in a group.
However, you need to develop your own solution and submit it in your own name.
The group serves as a platform to discuss problems and help each other.
Nature of the exercises
Doing the exercises requires you to apply all the elements needed to reach the learning goals and
to successfully solve complex problems regarding data quality.
Admission to the final exam
In order to be admitted to the final exam, you will have to hand in your solutions to exercises.
You will have to upload your solutions onto ILIAS.
Once they have been checked, you will be notified by email about "Pass" or "Not pass".
To be admitted to the final exam, you must “pass” 5 exercises.
For further information, see "Information about the exercises" on page 4.

Information about the exercises
Design of the exercises
An exercise generally includes various types of tasks:
For example, open answers, multiple choices, and calculations with R/RStudio.
Checking the exercises / Suggested solutions
You will hand in solutions of your exercises.
The exercises are checked and rated as "Pass" or "Not pass."
A "Pass" rate does not mean that your solution is error-free. It simply means that it meets the
minimum standards. It is therefore essential that you always compare your work with the
suggested solutions, posted on ILIAS after the submission date.
Details on submitting the exercises
Submission date Generally by 12.00 on the following Thursday (see table on → Page 3)
File format PDF
File name Surname_Firstname_Exercise number (e.g. Doe_John_03)
Location Folder "Submission → Exercises Student Solutions" on ILIAS
Be sure to upload your solution to the correct subfolder.
Correspondence It is not possible to communicate by email about the exercises.
Ask questions in the tutorials.
Important The exercises will be checked only if submitted as a PDF file (with the right
name and in the right location on ILIAS) by the deadline.
