Easy to use GUI Guide
Introduction
The VCL-TP Teleprotection GUI is designed to assist the user in configuring the VCL-TP Teleprotection.
The VCL-TP Teleprotection E1 Plus E1 GUI is designed to assist the user in configuring the VCL-TP
Teleprotection E1 Plus E1 system, either locally, through a serial RS232 / USB (COM port), or remotely using
TELNET over TCP/IP link.
To start the GUI, first, connect the equipment to a PC through a serial (RS232 or USB port), or through its
10/100BaseT port and then open the GUI.
The following window will appear:
Note: 1. Please check and make sure that the equipment is properly connected to a PC
either through the serial (RS232 or USB port), or through the 10/100BaseT Port.
2. Please use factory supplied RS232 cable (DB9 to DB9) or Ethernet cable provided with the
system.
Note: All GUI screens shall not become active until a “live” system is detected.
There are three type of users-
1. Superuser - A superuser is a sole administrator of the equipment and can make any changes in
the system configuration including Add, Delete and View Users.
2. Systemuser - A systemuser can make any changes in the equipment except Add and Delete
users.
3. Viewuser - A viewuser shall only be able to view the system configuration and shall not be able
to make any changes in the equipment.

Add/Remove System
Next, go to 'Add/Remove System' to add a new system
Click on Add/Remove System. The following window will appear:

To “Add” a system in the GUI database
To add a new system, click 'New'. Fill in in the form / IP address / details and Click 'Add' to add the system in
the GUI.
Note: Please check and note that the correct IP address etc. has been entered.
To “Delete” a system from the GUI database
Please select the equipment from the drop-down menu and select 'Delete' to remove the equipment
permanently from the GUI along with its configuration data.
To “Edit” the system’s information in the GUI database
To make the any changes in the current / in the existing entry - first click the 'Edit' button at the to enter the
"Edit” menu. Next, make the necessary changes in the entries.
Next, click the 'Edit' button at the bottom to "Edit” Menu
The current record will be updated.
Cancel
If you have clicked 'New' to add a system but you want to cancel that operation, then click 'Cancel'.
The list will get refreshed automatically.

Communication
To access the system through the local RS232 / USB (COM) Port
To communicate with the system, you have to make a connection with the system either through TCP/IP or
RS232 / USB serial COM port.
To select RS232 / USB serial COM Port or TCP/IP Winsock, click 'New Session'.
Click on 'New Session'.
The following window will appear:
Select the desired COM (RS232 / USB) Port that is in use from the drop down menu.

Click 'OK'.
A message "COM X is selected" will be displayed.
The following login page will be displayed:
Enter the 'User Name' and 'Password'
Next, click 'Submit'
Note: Default User Name and Password is:
User Name: superuser
Password: superuser
Note: User name and password is case sensitive.

To access the system through the 10/100BaseT Ethernet Port
To access the system remotely, select the 'TCP/IP Winsock'. The following window will appear:
Select the IP address of the equipment.
Note:
The Factory Default IP Address of the System is 192.168.1.101. To change the IP address, please connect the
system with the COM port using RS232 / USB serial cable provided with the system and then go to Network
Settings.
Important Security Note:
It would become necessary for the user to change/assign the System IP Address according to their network
requirements. For security reasons and in compliance with the GR-815-CORE password protection
requirements, it is not permitted to change the IP address, remotely, over the IP link / 10/100BaseT Ethernet
Port. The System IP Address can only be changed through the RS232 / USB serial port. Please connect the
system with the COM Port using RS232 / USB cable provided with the system and then go to Network
Settings to change the IP address.
Next, click 'OK' to connect the system.

Enter the 'User Name' and 'Password'
Next, click 'Submit'.
Note: Default User Name and Password is:
User Name: superuser
Password: superuser
Note: User name and password is case sensitive.
End Session
After you have completed the configuration and you want to close the session with the current system or
you want to create a new session with another system, then you are required to end the current session.
For this go to 'Communication > End Session'.

Administration
To add, delete and view users, go to 'Administration'.
Click on 'Administration'.

Add User
Note: Only the 'superuser' can perform this action, i.e. “Add” or “Delete” a User.
Click on 'Add User' to create a new user.
The following window will appear:
First select the 'Access Level' and then enter 'User Name' , 'Password' and 'Confirm Password' and select
the option 'Yes/No' for that user to change the password on first login and then click 'Submit' to add a new
user in the system access management.
Delete User
Click on 'Delete User' to delete a user from system access management.
The following window will appear:
Enter the user name which you want to delete and then click 'Submit'. User will be deleted in the system
access management.

To Edit Password
It is strongly recommended that all users must assign themselves a new password, after their account has
been created and a user name and password assigned to them by the system administrator (“superuser”).
To re-assign / reset the password:
Click on 'Edit Password' to change the password of the user.
The following window will appear:
Enter 'New Password' and 'Confirm Password' and then click 'Submit' to change the password of the user in
the system access management.
Show Users
Click on 'Show Users' to view the registered users in system access management.
The following window will appear:
The above window will show list of all the users.

Network Settings
To view and configure the network settings, go to 'Network Settings'.
Click on 'Network Settings'.
The following window will appear:
This window will show current 'TP IP Address', 'TP Subnet Mask', 'TP Gateway Address' and 'MAC Address'.
To change any configuration (except MAC Address, MAC Address is permanent) check the corresponding
modify box and then change the configuration.
Click on 'Submit' to make all the changes effective in the equipment.

Status Monitoring
To view the interface, go to 'Status Monitoring'.

To view and configure the combine commands of all the channels, click on 'Combine Command' tab.

To change any configuration check the modify box corresponding to the configuration and Change the
Configuration.
Click on 'Submit' to make all the changes effective in the equipment.

System Information
To view and configure the information about the equipment, click on 'System Information' tab.
The following window will appear:
The above window will show the current information of the equipment.
To change any configuration check the modify box corresponding to the configuration and Change the
Configuration.
Click on 'Submit' to make all the changes effective in the equipment.
Set Default Local: Click Set Default Local to sets the ID of Local terminal to Local ID - 1 and Remote ID - 2.
Set Default Remote: Click Set Default Remote to sets the ID of Remote terminal to Local ID - 2 and Remote
ID - 1.

System Test
To initiate a Manual Loop Test or to configure the system for a periodic Automatic Loop Test and to view the
results, go to 'System Test'.
Click on 'System Test'. The following window will appear:

To initiate a Manual Loop Test and to view the results, Click on 'Manual Loop Test' tab.
The following window will appear:
The above window will show the 'Manual Loop Test'.
Manual Loop Test Result: To view the results of the manual loop test, choose the page number.
Corresponding result will show.

Auto Loop Test
To configure the system for a periodic Automatic Loop Test and to view the results, Click on 'Auto Loop Test'
tab.
The following window will appear:
The above window will show the interval of the 'Auto Loop Test'.
To re-configure or to change duration of auto loop test, please check the Modify box corresponding to the
configuration and then change the configuration.
Click on 'Submit' to make all the changes effective in the equipment.
Auto Loop Test Result: To view the results of the auto loop test, choose the page number from the drop
down box. Corresponding result will show.

Alarms
To mask/unmask the alarms, view and clear E1 alarms, go to 'Alarms'.
Click on 'Alarms Status'.

To view power supply status and mask/unmask the alarms, click on 'Mask/Unmask Alarm'.

E1 Alarms
To view E1 alarms, click on 'E1 Alarms'. The following window will appear:

Clear Alarms: Click Clear Alarms to clear E1 alarms.

Communication Link
To view and configure BER test duration, start and stop BER test, BER test result, Auto mode status and
Primary link, go to 'Communication Link' in the left hand side menu.
Click on 'Communication Link'.

Link Insight
To initiate and view the BER test result and to view and configure BER test duration, click on 'Link Insight'.
The following window will appear:
The above window will show current 'BER Test Duration'.
To change any configuration check the corresponding modify box and then change the configuration.

Start BER Test: To start BER test, click 'Start BER Test'.
Stop BER Test: To stop BER test, click 'Stop BER Test'.

Link Redundancy
To view and configure auto mode status and primary link, click on 'Link Redundancy' tab.

Maintenance
The Maintenance menu may be used to:
> Initiate a system Self test,
> Reset (re-start) the equipment
> Reset (re-start) the equipment with its factory default settings,

Self Test
A System Self-Test can be initiated by the user for system diagnostics. To view initiate a System Self-Test and
view the Self-Test result of the equipment, click on 'Self Test' tab.

The above window will show test result of the equipment.
Reboot
To reboot (restart) the equipment, click on 'Reboot' tab.
The equipment shall reboot / restart.

Default Settings
Note: Set Default resets the system to its original factory default settings. It would become necessary to
use the “Set Default” command after upgrading the system’s firmware. It is advised that the system’s existing
configuration be saved in the event that the system’s software is upgraded using the “Software Upgrade”
command, or the system is reset to its factory default settings using the “Set Default” command.
To configure the equipment in default settings, go to 'Maintenance'.
Click on 'Maintenance'.
The following window will appear:
Click on 'Set Default' to configure the equipment in default configuration (excluding TP IP settings).
