HOW TO INSTALL OBS STUDIO IN YOUR COMPUTER
Disclaimer:
installation images are done on a windows 10 computer, but the
process should be similar to Windows 11.
If you are in mac, the videos as well as the user interface should be
almost similar to the windows counterpart.
DOWNLOAD AND INSTALLATION
1. Go to the url pasted below. Select the download link based on the
Operating system of your computer.
a. https://obsproject.com/
2. Go to your downloads folder and double click OBS installer.
If you used google chrome, downloads can be accessed by inputting
the keyboard shortcut “ctrl + j “
3. During installation, you can leave everything with the default option.
OBS should open at the end after pressing the “OK” button.
4. When you open OBS for the first time, it will show an Auto-
Configuration Wizard window. Select the 2nd option since this option
optimizes OBS for screen recording. Press “Next” after selecting the 2nd
option.
5. In the next window, select the following options:
a. Base (canvas) Resolution: use current resolution or select the
resolution of the monitor of your computer i.e. 1920 x 1080.
b. FPS: select 30 fps as a standard. Using a higher fps would result
in larger files size of your recordings. Press next to proceed to the
next window
6. Click apply settings to finalize the initial setup
7. Setup is now complete. You should see a plain background like the one
shown below.

SETTING UP OBS FOR HARDWARE AND RECORDING.
1. Scenes – For basic recoding, only one scene is needed.
2. Sources: Add sources by clicking the plus icon, and choose between
Display Capture (captures the whole screen) and Window Capture
(captures a specific window). You don’t have to change the settings
on the window that pops up next.
3. For Display selection, choose the proper display that you want to
record on and press OK.
4. OBS should now display the monitor that you selected
5. Check audio settings.
a. Ensure for desktop audio is properly configured. Go to settings
>> properties>>Device. The selected device should be the
same with your desktop. Press OK to confirm the settings.
b. Ensure that the microphone is also the same. The steps are
similar to desktop audio.
6. To start recording, press on the start recording button on the lower
right hand corner of the window. The same button will be used to
stop the recording.
7. To access the video recordings, go file>>screen recordings. By
default they can be found under This PC >> Videos (For windows)

SETTING UP KEBOARD SHORTCUTS
The video offers tips for enhancing the OBS recording experience,
primarily through keyboard shortcuts and output settings:
1. Keyboard Shortcuts:
Assign shortcuts for start, stop, pause, and unpause recording in the
hotkeys settings. It can be found under File >> Settings >>
Hotkeys. Don’t forget to press OK to confirm all changes.
Recommended shortcuts:
i. Start: Ctrl + Numpad 1
ii. Pause/Unpause: Ctrl + Numpad 2
iii. Stop: Ctrl + Numpad 3
You can use any hotkey that you want based on personal
preference.
2. Output Settings:
We can modify the output of our video recordings by changing the
output resolution. This can be found in File >> Settings >> Video
>> Output (Scale) Resolution. Use 1920x1080 resolution for a
balance between quality and file size. Higher resolutions like 4K will
result in a larger file size. Don’t forget to press OK to apply all the
changes.
