Sample Problem Set CHB

The document presents a sample problem set involving calculations for constructing a wall using concrete hollow blocks (CHB) and mortar. It provides detailed steps to determine the total number of CHB, bags of cement, and volume of sand required for both laying and plastering the wall. Additionally, it includes an exercise problem with given answers for a different wall scenario.

Sample Problem Set:

1. A wall has a length of 345 meters and a height of 1.2 meters. Determine the following if the size of CHB to be used is
8”, the Class Mix for the Mortar is Class “B” and the Class Mix for Plastering is Class “A” with a 17mm thickness

a. Total number of CHB to be used

b. Total number of Cement(bags) to be used for CHB laying
c. Total volume of Sand to be used for CHB laying
d. Total number of Cement(bags) to be used for plastering for 2 sides of the wall
e. Total volume of Sand to be used for plastering for 2 sides of the wall

Step 1: Determine the area of the wall:

Area = Length x Height

Area = 345m x 1.2m = 414sq.m.

Step 2: Multiply the area to the number of CHB/sq.m., Cement factor and aggregate ratio for 8” CHB Class B Mortar
based on Table 2-2

= 414sq.m. x 12.5pcs/sq.m = 5,175pcs 8” CHB (Answer #1)

= 414sq.m. x 1.5 = 612 Bags of Cement (Answer #2)

= 414sq.m. x 0.125 = 51.75cu.m. of Sand (Answer #3)

For plastering: Get the volume first

= 414sq.m. x 2 (multiply by 2 because is has 2 sided to be plastered with) x 0.017m (thickness of plaster in
meters)

= 14.076cu.m. (Volume of plaster required)

Multiply the volume to the cement and sand factor based on the Table 2-1

= 14.076cu.m. x 18.0 = 253.368 Bags of Cement (Answer #4)

=14.076cu.m. x 1.0 = 14.076cu.m. of Sand (Answer #5)

Exercise problem: Answers are already given

2. A wall has a length of 678 meters and a height of 4.5 meters. Determine the following if the size of CHB to be used is
4”, the Class Mix for the Mortar is Class “D” and the Class Mix for Plastering is Class “C” with a 13mm thickness\

a. Total number of CHB to be used = 38,137.5 Pcs

b. Total number of Cement(bags) to be used for CHB laying = 1,000.728 Bags of cement
c. Total volume of Sand to be used for CHB laying = 132.7185 cu.m.
d. Total number of Cement(bags) to be used for plastering for 2 sides of the wall = 713.934 Bags of cement
e. Total volume of Sand to be used for plastering for 2 sides of the wall = 79.326 cu.m.
