Chapter3
3.2. Research design
The research design refers to the overall strategy that you choose to
integrate the different components of the study in a coherent and logical
way, thereby, ensuring you will effectively address the research
problem; it constitutes the blueprint for the collection, measurement, and
analysis of data (USC libraries, 2006).
3.3. Research approach
Research approach is a plan and procedure that consists of the steps of
broad assumptions to detailed method of data collection, analysis and
interpretation. It is therefore, based on the nature of the research problem
being addressed (project guru, 2010).
3.4. Sample design
3.4.1. Population
A research population is generally a large collection of individuals or
objects that is the main focus of a scientific query. It is for the benefit of
the population that researches are done. However, due to the large sizes
of populations, researchers often cannot test every individual in the
population because it is too expensive and time-consuming. This is the
reason why researchers rely on sampling techniques .A research
population is also known as a well-defined collection of individuals or
objects known to have similar characteristics. All individuals or objects
within a certain population usually have a common, binding
characteristic or trait (Explorable, 2009).
3.4.2. Sample size
Sample size is a count of individual samples or observations in any
statistical setting, such as a scientific experiment or a public opinion
survey. Though a relatively straightforward concept, choice of sample
size is a critical determination for a project. Too small a sample yields
unreliable results, while an overly large sample demands a good deal of
time and resources (Zamboni, 2018). Therefore the researcher will use
slovine’s Formula to calculate sample size.
Thus, the sample size will be calculated by using this formula ;
n= N
1+N(e) 2
Where ;
n= number of sample size.
N= number of population.
e= error of margin.
3.4.3. Sampling techniques
Sampling helps a lot in research. It is one of the most important factors
which determine the accuracy of your research/survey result. If anything
goes wrong with your sample then it will be directly reflected in the final
result. There are lot of techniques which help us to gather sample
depending upon the need and situation. This blog post tries to explain
some of those techniques (singh, 2018).
