Restaurants
1. I Kriti: Very nice Cretan food and good Raki. Strongly suggested. You can
choose to walk or take a taxi. (if you choose to walk, I suggest taking this
path https://goo.gl/maps/sY3GXmFYdtM2 from the “Panepistimio” metro station –
you can extend to Syntagma station if you continue walking along Panepistimiou
str)
2. Acropolis museum: It has a restaurant with acropolis view. Nothing
spectacular besides the view. You can always combine it with a visit to the
museum, which is beautiful.
3. Quick pitta: Good souvlaki.
4. School Pizza Bar: Decent Italian, good location (next ot the our office).
5. Mirch: Interesting combination of souvlaki with Indian food
6. To paradosiako: Very good greek tavern. Lots of “meat on a stick” choices.
7. Zisis: surprisingly good implementation of “fast food” to seafood/fish
8. Scholarhio Kouklis Ouzeri: Very nice location (take your time to walk
around – there many places you may like). Most of the times the food is not
excellent. It’s ok though.
9. Strofi Restaurant: Very good food and nice view of Acropolis. More
expensive than the other suggestions. Reservation is necessary!
10. Skoufias: You can try this, if you go to the Kallimarmaro Stadium. It is quite
close and it has some nice greek food. Just avoid drinking raki there.
11. Spondi Restaurant: One of the best gourmet restaurants of Athens, and
most expensive too. Also requires reservation.
12. Nolan: Very good restaurant (not really gourmet – but belongs to a famous
greek/Japanese chef).
13. Ouzeri by Papaioannou: This is an “ouzeri” meaning small “meze” dishes to
accompany your ouzo. Very relaxing place with nice food, right next to the most
expensive shops of Athens. Great to have a rest and small bite.
14. Alex the fresh pasta bar: A no-frills place for good pasta near Lycabettus.
Meeting place mostly for young people, friendly staff.
15. Mani Mani: Really good food, 3 minutes’ walk from the Acropolis museum.
16. Kostas Souvlaki: Famous for its souvlaki, though I haven’t tried it. Always
very crowded, try to go as early as possible if you want to try it.
17. To steki tou Ilia: Lamb chops restaurant, very decent and not very touristic.
Feels like a tavern in a village.
18. Gastone: Excellent meat, but very far from calling this a traditional place.
19. Black Duck Garden: beautiful garden, very decent food. Excellent for a
dinner in the summer.
20. Seychelles: Good food and relaxed atmosphere. Better for
afternoon/evening to avoid the heat. If you can’t find a table there you can also
go to “the egg of the rooster” on the opposite side of the same square. This is a
less touristic area, mostly preferred by locals.
21. Simul: Semi-gourmet, mainly known to locals.
22. Feedel: More generally known semi-gourmet place, but good food and good
cocktails.
Cafés, Bars and Terraces
1. Yiasemi: Nice for coffee if the weather is good. Typically full on rush hours.
2. Couleur Locale: Roof-top with nice Acropolis view
3. TAF: More artistic café. It was basically built in the back yard of some old
Athenian houses. Nice to see.
4. Odeon: Relaxing, more French-style cafe, mainly known to locals.
5. Bar Frau: Closer to Omonoia, and mainly known to locals. More Berlin-style
bar.
6. Choureal: Excellent profiterole.
Nice walks:
1. Around Akropoli (both from the south and the north side)
2. National Garden and Zappio
3. Syntagma to Kerameikos through Ermou street (Ermou street is the most
well-known market in Greece
4. Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (the new cultural center of
Athens. This time of year it has some events during the weekends. Check
the website here https://www.snfcc.org/visitors-center/events/)
5. Lykavittos Hill (nice view but a bit difficult to reach the small church at the
top – it’s quite uphill) - there will be a concert there on Friday evening.
6. Filopappou Hill (nice walk around and nice view at some points. Only for
daytime – it doesn’t have lots of lights and it’s a bit dark)
7. Stoa of Attalos: Very nice ancient area to walk around
Wine bars:
1. Heteroclito: https://maps.app.goo.gl/GKFJGqrrNhJbRQzG7
2. Warehouse Assemblage: https://maps.app.goo.gl/KoB5cTyCR98fiLLG9
3. Finewine: https://maps.app.goo.gl/SF4kD6XgnRXPaUFi6
Souvlaki places (close to Omonoia):
1. Prigkipas: Interesting semi-underground place for souvlaki (the location is
not good - but the food is nice).
2. Kalopsimeno: Good gyros, and generally a very descent choice for good
souvlaki on the go.
