CRJS Assignment 4
Instructions
After reviewing the learning resources, complete the chart and find an image that connects to
the criminal justice topics you’ve explored. Summarize the chart contents and their connection
to the image with the goal of synthesizing material. "Synthesis" means combining two or more
things to produce something new. When you read and write, you will be asked to synthesize by
taking ideas from what you read and combining them to form new ideas.
Criteria
● Complete the chart for learning resources in parts one and two and include it in your
post
● Find an image that connects to the criminal topics and include it in your post
● Synthesize the ideas in your chart and image in one of two ways:
● Compose one to two paragraphs that synthesize the contents of the chart
● Record a one-to-two-minute audio or video of yourself discussing the synthesized
contents of the chart
● Include at least one quotation or paraphrased idea from each learning resource
● Include MLA style in text citation with the author's last name and page number in
parentheses when integrating a source (Last name #).
● Include an MLA style Works Cited list with the assigned learning resources included at
the end of the post
● Revisit the discussion to read and respond to two classmates

In the chart, each of those sources talk about criminal law and justice and the main reason why
the system is around in the U.S. For instance, in the article, “Criminal Law,” by “Bell Jeanie,” the main
point of her article is the main purpose of the United States criminal law system. In the article, Jeanie
exclaims that,”when the U.S Constitution was ratified in 1787, with few exceptions, it provided
Congress only with the power to punish counterfeiting, treason, “Piracies and Felonies committed on
the high Seas, and Offenses against the Law of Nations”(Bell 1). Criminal law relates the laws and
restrictions that the U.S government set up for the consequences and punishments to people who break
those laws. Some of those punishments may include getting fined, community service, probation,
incarnation, or the death penalty. Each of these crimes and punishments gets cataloged depending on
how serious the crime is. The author wanted to share the main importance and common crimes and
punishments that the U.S criminal law system demonstrates.
In the article, “Criminal Justice,” the author’s main point for the article is to explain what the
main purpose of the criminal justice system in the U.S government is. In the article, the author explained
that, “the network of government agencies and institutions related to crime and punishment is
commonly referred to as enforcement, the courts, and corrections are its major components” (Criminal
Justice 1). The article also explained the many consequences and restrictions to individuals for the
crimes they committed. The chart also shared how many organizations and groups try to rehabilitate
people incarcerated so they can live in society with every other human being. Criminal justice explains
how the U.S government system operates on how they deal with terrorists and convicts.
