CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
"Tourism is the temporary, short-term movement of people
to destinations outside the places where they normally live and work and their
activities during the stay at each destination. It includes movements for all
purposes. The one who takes such a journey can be called a tourist.
Going on an Educational Tours means more than simply leaving the
school grounds. Educational Tours should always have a major educational
element, but the impact of Educational Tours can extend much further. The
importance of Educational Tours offer an uncommon opportunity to perform
hands-on learning, experience new environments and enjoy a day away from the
classroom.
Tours provide valuable educational opportunities away from the
classroom, without using textbooks and other tools used in a normal school
setting.
Educational Tours can give students exposure to places they might not
otherwise visit.
Many schools, camps and institutions offer Educational Tours for students
to spend several hours or days outside of the classroom. Educational Tours
range from local visits to civic offices or businesses to international excursions,
complete with overnight stays. Whatever their scope, Educational Tours can offer
many advantages to the students who take them.
It's important for instructors and school administrators to choose
Educational Tours that augment existing lesson plans and synchronize with
classroom learning. The Educational Tours that teachers choose for these
reasons can serve to illustrate difficult concepts or extend the general natural of a
classroom lesson by giving more specific information. The specialists who lead
school groups on Educational Tours also may be able to provide professional
insight from advanced study or direct experience that teachers could never
provide alone.
Part of how students benefit from Educational Tours is by gaining new
perspectives in the world. This is especially true for more extensive Educational
Tours where students travel farther away from home.
By coming into direct contact with a different environment or even a new
culture or language, students can better understand their place in the community
and develop openness to differences in others.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the research design, research locale, research instrument,
data gathering procedures and treatment of data that were utilized by the
researchers.
Research Design
The researchers used the Descriptive method of research to collect data about
the level of significance of educational tour to hospitality management students of
La Consolacion College-Biñan. This research maybe quantitative which
characterizes population or qualitative which provides an in-depth description of
of persons or groups and their action within their natural setting. This research is
qualitative in terms of the opinion of the respondents about the study.
The type of descriptive method that the researchers adopted was the survey
research questionnaire. This type of method aims to analyze, interpreter, and
classify data and a source of information for the future researchers. The
researchers conducted written and oral interview with the students of Batch 2015
Hospitality Management graduates in La Consolacion College-Biñan.
Population Sample and Sampling Technique
The population of the respondents was based on the total number of students of
Batch 2015 Hospitality Management graduates in La Consolacion College-Biñan.
To get the sample size of the respondents the researchers used the Slovin’s
formula. The sampling technique that the researchers used was through random
sampling.
Slovin’s formula:
n= N
1+N (e)
n= 26
1+26(
n= 26
27+(
n=
Whereas:
n= stands for the sample
N= stands for the population
e= stands for error which may be .03, .04, .05.
Research Instrument
The researchers used survey forms questionnaires, books, journals,
internet researches references and supporting data such as the oral
interview and ocular inspection that were composed of demographic
profile of the respondents such as gender, age, economic skills and
frequency of educational tour every semester. It also includes the level of
significance in terms of exposure, knowledge/skills and employment,
advantage of participating in educational tour so that we will be able to
know the level of significance of educational tour on how it can help the
students in any aspect.
The data collected in this study were organized and classified
based on the research design and the problems formulated. The data was
analyzed and interpreted, through Likert scale. It used the “Method of
Summated Ratings”, statements of opinions were presented to
participants who indicated significant and insignificant. Through the 1-5
scale or scoring systems.

Validation of Questionnaire
To facilitate understanding , the researchers supplemented a questionnaire
through verbal and hands-on instruction. Some of the respondents were guided
by the researchers in answering the questionnaire.
Fortunately, the respondents did not find a hard time in answering the
questions which means all the terms used by the researchers were concise and
easy to understand. With the result, the researchers decided to administer the
questionnaire to the actual respondents.
