AUTOCAD ELECTRICAL DESIGN PROCEDURE
1. Launching AutoCAD Electrical
o Open AutoCAD Electrical.
o Click on the dropdown arrow at the top right corner of the interface and select the
Menu option.
o Select Acad Electrical and click Open.
2. Creating a New Drawing
o Select New Drawing and browse to locate Acad Electrical.
o Open the file and assign an appropriate name, e.g., "Group 4a Assignment."
o Confirm the file properties by selecting OK.
3. Drawing a Rectangle
o Navigate to the Home tab.
o Use the Draw tool to create a rectangle.
4. Using the Symbol Builder Tool
o Open the Schematic tab.
o Click on the dropdown arrow next to Symbol Builder and select Symbol
Builder.
o In the Symbol Interface, click on Select Object (green icon).
o Highlight the previously drawn rectangle and press Enter.
5. Assigning Symbol Attributes
o From the dropdown menu, select Horizontal Parent.
o In the Type dropdown menu, select Generic.
o A new interface with a template appears at the top left corner.
o Select TAG1 and click Insert Attribute, positioning it correctly.
o Repeat the process for LOC, INST, DESC, and MFG, ensuring proper
placement.
6. Configuring Wire Connections
o Click on the dropdown arrow on the right of Direction Style and select Others.
o A template for inserting wire connections opens.
o Click on the dropdown list for Terminal Style and select Screw.
o Set the Connection Direction as follows:
TERMINAL CONNECTION DIRECTION
TERM01 Left & Top
TERM02 Right & Top
TERM03 Right
TERM04 Right & Bottom
TERM05 Bottom
TERM06 Bottom
TERM07 Left & Bottom
o Delete the last row labeled X4TERMDESC01.
o Repeat the above steps for all wire connections.
7. Finalizing the Symbol Design
o Click on Close Block Editor and select Pick Point.
o Use the cursor to select the top line of the symbol and confirm with OK.
o Exit the Block Editor and confirm insertion of the symbol by selecting Yes.
o Rename the symbol as REC SYMBOL.
8. Creating a Schematic Symbol Folder
o Open the Schematic tab.
o Click on Icon Menu Wizard.
o In the Select Menu File tab, choose Schematic and click OK.
o A template with schematic symbols appears.
o Click on the dropdown arrow next to Add and select New Sub-Menu.
o Create a new sub-folder named RECTANGULAR SUB-FOLDER SYMBOL.
o Assign an image file labeled HDV_005.
o Open the created sub-folder and select Component.
o Name the component REC SYMBOL and associate it with the symbol created.
o Add the image file HDV_005 to the Block Name field and confirm by clicking
OK.
9. Inserting the Symbol into a Ladder Diagram
o Under the Schematic tab, locate Insert Wire Area.
o Click on the Insert Ladder Icon and select Insert Ladder.
o Define the required number of rungs (e.g., 5) and click OK.
o Draw the ladder diagram.
o Right-click on the last rung and select Insert Component.
o From the previously created sub-menu, select the REC SYMBOL.
o Insert the symbol into the chosen rung.
