Type I
1. A tower stands vertically on the round. From a point on the ground which is 60m away from the foot of the tower, the
angle of elevation of the top of the tower is found to be 600. Find the height of the tower. (Ans. h = 60 � m)
2. A kite is flying a height of 90 m above the ground. The string attached to the kite is temporarily tied to a point on the
ground. The inclination of the string with the ground is 600. Find the length of the string assuming that there is no slack
in the string. [ Take 3 = 1.732] (Ans. 103.92 m)
3. The height of a tower is 45m. if the angle of elevation of the sun is 30 , find the length of the shadow formed at that

4. A circus artist is climbing a rope 12m long which is tightly stretched and tied from the top of a vertical pole to the
ground. Find the height of the pole, if the angle made by the rope with the ground is 300. (Ans. h = 6m)
5. From a point on the ground 129m away from the base of a pole, the elevation of the top of a pole was found to be 300. Find
the vertical height of the pole. [ Use 3 = 1.732] (Ans. 69.28 m)

Type I (B)
6. An electric pole is 10 m high. If its shadow is 10 3 m in length, find the angle of elevation of the sun at that time.
(Ans.  = 300)
7. A tree breaks due to the storm and the broken part bends so that the top of the tree touches the ground making an
angle of 300 with the ground. The distance from the foot of the tree to the point, where the top touches the ground, is 8

Type II
12. If the shadow of a tower is 30 m long when the sun’s elevation is 300, what is the length of the shadow, when sun’s
elevation is 600? (Ans. y = 10 m)
13. As observed from the top of a light house 100m high above sea-level the angle of depression of a ship sailing
directly towards it, changes from 300+ to 600. Determine the distance travelled by the ship during the period of
observation. [ Use 3 = 1.732] (Ans. 115.48 m)
14. From the top of a light house, the angle of a depression of a ship sailing towards it was found to be 300. After 10 seconds,
the angle of depression changes to 600. Assuming that the ship is sailing at uniform speed, find how much time it will
take to reach the light house.

Type II (B)

15. A vertical tower is surmounted by a flag staff of height 5 meters. At a point on the ground, the angles of elevation of
bottom and top of flag staff are 450 and 600 respectively. Find the height of the tower. (Ans. 6.83 m)
16. A person standing on the bank of a river observes that the angle of elevation of the top of the tree standing on the
opposite bank is 600. When he moves 30 m away from the bank, he finds the angle of elevation to be 300. Find the
height of the tree and the width of the river. (Ans. 15 m)
17. The shadow of a vertical tower on level ground increases by 16 m when the altitude of the sun changes from
angles of elevation 600 TO 450. Find the height of the tower correct to one place of decimal. [ Use 3 = 1.732]

18. A person standing on the bank of the river observes that the angle subtended by a tree on the opposite bank is 600. When
he retreats 20 m from the bank he finds the angle to be 300, find the height of the tree. (Ans. 17.32 m)

Type II (D)
22. Two men on either side of a 60 m high cliff observe the angles of elevation of the top of the cliff to be 450 and 600
respectively. Find the distance between the two men. (Ans. 20(3 + � ) m)
23. Two pillars of equal height are on either side of a road, which is 100 m wide. The angles of elevation of the top of the
pillars are 600 and 300 at a point on the road between the pillars . Find the position of the point between the pillars on
the road and the height of the pillars. (Ans. Required distance = 75m from a pillar and 25 m from another pillar Height
of the pillars = 43.25m)
24. The angle of elevation of the top of a building from the foot tower is 300 and the angle of elevation of the top of the

tower from the foot of the building is 600. If the tower is 50 m high, find the height of the building. (Ans. x = �� � �)
25. An aeroplane at an altitude of 200 m observes the angles od a depression oftwo optical points on two banks of the rivers

26. The angle of elevation of top of a tower two points at a distance of 4 an and 9 m from the base of tower and in the
same straight line with it are 600 and 300 respectively . Prove that height of the tower is 6 m. (Ans. h = 6m)
27. The angle of elevation of the top of a tower from two points distant a and b from the base and in the same straight
line with it are complementary. Prove that the height of tower is ab.

Type IV
28. From a point P on the ground the angle of elevation of the top of a 10 m tall building is 300. A flag is hoisted at the top
of the building and the angle of elevation of the top of the flagstaff from P is 450. Find the length of the flagstaff. [ Take
3 = 1.732] (Ans. 7.32m)
29. A vertical tower is surmounted by a flag staff of height 5 meters. At a point on the ground, the angles of elevation of

30. From a point on the ground, the angles of elevation of the bottom and top of a transmission tower fixed at the top 20 m

31. The angles of depression of the top and bottom of an 8m tall building from the top of a multistoreyed building are 300
and 450 respectively. Find the height of the multistoreyed building and the distance between the two buildings.

32. A tower is 60m high. From the top of it the angles of depression of the top and the bottom of a tree are found to be 300

33. From a window , 60m high above the ground of a house in a street, the angles of elevation and depression of the

34. From the top of a building 60 m high, the angles of depression of the top and the bottom of a tower are observed to

36. The angle of elevation of an aeroplane from a point on the ground is 450. After flying for 15 seconds the angle of
elevation changes to 300. If the aeroplane is flying at a constant height of 2500 m, find the average speed of the aeroplane.

42. An aircraft is flying at a constant height with a speed of 360 km/hour. From a point on the ground, the angle of
elevation was observed to be 450. After 20 seconds, the angle of elevation was observed to be 300. Determine the height

43. A man on the top of a vertical tower by the ship during the period of observation is 115.48 m. it takes 12
minutes for the angle of depression to change from 300 to 450, how soon after this car will reach the tower?
