EXISTING SYSTEMS

2.1. Existing Systems

The current security system employed in university buses relies solely on Radio-
Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for student authentication. RFID cards are issued
to students, and access to university buses is granted upon card verification. However, this
system lacks the sophistication needed to address evolving security challenges, particularly in
verifying the identity of individuals in real-time.

2.2. Drawbacks in Existing Systems

The exclusive dependence on RFID cards presents several drawbacks. Firstly, it relies
on a manual process where students need to present and swipe their cards, which can lead to
bottlenecks during peak times and delays in boarding. Additionally, the system is susceptible
to card-sharing practices, where one student's card may be used by another, compromising
the integrity of the security measure. Moreover, the RFID system does not provide real-time
identity verification, making it challenging to promptly identify and respond to unauthorized
individuals.

2.3. Examples of Existing Systems

Several universities around the world utilize RFID-based access control systems for
transportation services. These systems typically involve students presenting their RFID cards
to gain entry onto university buses. However, the limitations of such systems have prompted
institutions to explore more advanced and real-time identification solutions.

2.4. Need to Replace Existing Systems

The drawbacks identified in the existing RFID system underscore the pressing need
for a more robust and proactive security solution. The Secure Campus Visage Guard project
proposes the integration of facial recognition technology to overcome the limitations of the
current system. Unlike RFID, facial recognition provides instantaneous identification,
reducing boarding time and offering a higher level of security by verifying the identity of
individuals as they enter the bus.
The need for a replacement is further emphasized by the escalating security concerns in
modern educational environments. The Secure Campus Visage Guard aims to address these
concerns by introducing a system that goes beyond the capabilities of traditional RFID
methods, enhancing the overall safety and security of university transportation.

DESIGN

4.1. Software Process Model

We Select Waterfall Model for "Secure Campus Visage Guard". In this linear and
sequential approach, the project progresses through distinct phases, including requirements
gathering, system design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance. Each phase
must be completed before moving on to the next, providing a structured and systematic
framework for project development.

4.1.1. Benefits of Selected Model

The Waterfall Model offers several advantages for the development of the facial
recognition system in university buses. Firstly, its straightforward and sequential nature
ensures a clear understanding of project milestones, facilitating effective project management
and planning. Additionally, the Waterfall Model is particularly well-suited for projects with
well-defined and stable requirements, which aligns with the relatively fixed specifications of
the facial recognition system. The model's documentation-centric approach ensures
comprehensive documentation at each stage, aiding in future maintenance and system
updates. Furthermore, the linear progression allows for a systematic review and verification
of each phase, enhancing the overall quality assurance of the project.

4.2. Limitations of Selected Model

The Waterfall Model comes with certain limitations that must be considered. One notable
drawback is its inflexibility in accommodating changes once a phase is completed. In a
dynamic project environment, where requirements may evolve, the model's rigid structure
can be a limitation. Additionally, the absence of feedback loops between phases can result in
potential issues being discovered late in the development process, leading to increased costs
and efforts for corrections. The model assumes that all requirements can be specified in the
initial phase, which may not always align with the evolving nature of technology or project
needs. Adherence to a sequential flow may also result in longer development times before
tangible outputs are visible to stakeholders. While suitable for well-defined projects like
Secure Campus Visage Guard, the limitations of the Waterfall Model underscore the
importance of careful planning and consideration of project dynamics.
