defective. A bolt is drawn at random and found to be defective.

b) The mean and standard deviation of the marks Obtained by CO3 L3 [5M]
1000 students in an examination are respectively 34.5 and 16.5.
Assuming the normality of the distribution, find the
approximate number of students expected to obtain marks

8 a) A random sample of size 100 is taken from an infinite population CO4 L3 [5M]
having the mean µ =76 and the variance 𝜎 =256 what is the
probability that 𝑥̅ will be between 75 and 78.
b) What is the maximum error one can expect to make with CO4 L3 [5M]
probability 0.90 when using the mean of a random sample of size
n = 64 to estimate the mean of population with 𝜎 = 2.56

9 a) A Population consists of five numbers2,3,6,8,11. Consider all CO4 L3 [5M]
possible samples of size two which can be drawn without
replacement from this population. Find(a) The mean of the
population(b) The mean of the sampling distribution of means
and(c) The standard deviation of the sampling distribution of
means.
b) A random sample of size 81 was taken whose variance is 20.25 CO4 L2 [5M]
and means is 32, construct 98% confidence interval.
UNIT-V
10 a) According to the norms established for a mechanical aptitude CO5 L3 [5M]
test, persons who are 18 years old have an average height of 73.2
with a S.D of 8.6. If 4 randomly selected persons of that age
averaged 76.7,test the hypothesis 𝜇 = 73.2 against the alternative
hypothesis 𝜇 > 73.2 at the 0.01 level of significance.
b) In a big city 325 men out of 600 men were found to be smokers. CO5 L3 [5M}
Does this information support the conclusion that the majority of
men in this city are smokers.
OR
11 a) The nicotine contents in milligrams in two samples of tobacco CO5 L3 [10M]
were found to be as follows:
