This Supplementary Worktext in reading was written with your level of
knowledge and your capacity to learn and apply the skills in English Key Stage
2. It is composed of various activities that can enhance your skills in
predicting outcomes. In this way, you will be able to identify outcomes of a
text using given clues such as pictures, information from the text or even
relate it to your prior knowledge or personal experience.

To make your learning fun and interesting, this supplementary


worktext in reading offers various activities that are contextualized.
Situational texts you are familiar with were included to make sure you will
successfully:

1. identify the outcomes of a text in different situations using given clues.


2. make your own prediction from the text using given clues.

Directions: Read and understand each of the situational texts and identify
what will happen next. Encircle the letter of your answer.

1. Liza asked a bag for her birthday. When she woke up in the morning, there
was a large box next to the sofa. What do you think would happen next?

Prediction is a good guess. We make


predictions all the time in our
daily lives.

When we tell what will happen next, we


predict outcomes or the future results. We base our
prediction on given clues.

When we guess about what will happen next


based on the clues, we are making predictions and
it is called predicting outcomes.

In reading a story, we must develop the skill of being able to tell what
will happen next based on the given ideas. We are making a good guess about
what can happen next in the text.

When making prediction, we use the clues like information and pictures
or relate our prior knowledge and personal experience.

Example No.1

Today is Daniel’s birthday. His mom will set a party for him. She went
to a market near the city. She wrapped a gift and bought balloons and cake.

Guide Questions:

1. Who is celebrating a birthday today?

Answer: Daniel is celebrating his birthday today.

2. What did Daniel’s mother buy in the market?

Answer: Daniel’s mother bought balloons and cake.

3. What do you think Daniel will do on his birthday?


Predicted Outcome: Daniel will open his gift and blow the candle of
his cake.

Note: We can predict the outcome of the text using the information or clues
given from the text itself. In the text given above, we were able to identify the
outcome with the information given: “Today is Daniel’s birthday” and “She
wrapped a gift and bought balloons and cake.”

Example No. 2

It was one rainy and cold Saturday morning. We were all at home and
watching TV. Mom went to the kitchen and look for something to cook and
eat on a rainy cold day.

What do you think is most likely to happen in the text?

Answer: Mom is going to cook a vegetable soup.

Note: We can also predict the outcome of the text by looking at the picture.

week,” John thought to himself. A day before the quiz, John planned to
study extra hard for his spelling quiz, but he started playing with his
friends at home and forgot all about the quiz. The day came and the teacher
said, “All right, bring out your pen and paper and get ready for your
spelling quiz.”

Predicting outcomes is when we guess what will happen


next in text. We based our outcome from clue like the
information or pictures included in the text.

We may use or relate our personal experience and prior


knowledge to identify the outcome of the text
