— Digimon 25tn Anniversary —

The Digital Monsters franchise was born as a virtual pet toy in

Japan in 1997. Since then, it has spawned a wide array of
products and content, from video games to anime to trading
card games and more, and become beloved to fans across the
globe. Now, more than 1,168 Digimon are recorded in the
Digimon Encylopedia, and over 14 million units in the Digimon
virtual pet lineup have been sold around the world. We are
thrilled to celebrate 25 years of Digimon with this exhibition
looking back on the history of Digimon and what makes the
world of Digimon so special. We hope that all of our fans, from
those who have been with us from the very beginning to those
who were introduced to this world through the Digimon Ghost
Game anime, will enjoy what we have in store.

 DIGITAL MONSTERS
One day, an Al-equipped virus infected computers all across the world. Thisvirus changed its shape and nature withinthe network,
evolving as though it were a living being—a Digital Monster (Digimon). It was the only lifeform inhabiting the Digital World, a
pseudo-cyberspace built upon the network.

The DigitalWorld is populated by various species of Digimon,which can also appear in the real world. These creatures can change
in size and shape through an ability called Digivolution,and their numbers grow year by year as the DigitalWorld expands. Below
is what has been established about their ecology.

Digimon's stages of growth are called "levels." Current research suggests that there are six levels in total, referred to as follows.

Digimon hatch from eggs known as DigiEggs. They grow by feeding on programs and data and by winning battles, changing form when they
advance to a higher level through Digivolution.

As a Digimon's level rises, the data that makes up their bodies stabilizes, increasing their physical powers and intelligence. The type of Digimon
it will Digivolve into is determined by the attributes of the programs and data it consumes, the characteristics of the area in which it lives, and
the knowledge and stimulus acquired from its individual experiences. Finally, when a Digimon reaches its life span, it dies, and returns with its
DigiCore to a DigiEgg.

The Birth and Rise of Digimon

The Digital Monster virtual pet toy was born in Japan

in 1997. These Digimon, digital pets which children
could raise and go to battle with, were a huge hit,
capturing the hearts of many.

In the quarter century that followed, the world of the:

anime to include all kinds of different products and
content. People all over the world grew up with their
beloved characters.

Digimon from the Virtual Pet Toys

From the original Digital Monster that hit the market in 1997 to the Vital Bracelet released in 2021, the
Digimon virtual pet toy has continuously evolved over the years. The first generation had a simple design
of a monochrome LCDscreen with three buttons, but the products that came after featured many different
functions to make raising your Digimon even more fun: pendulums, LEDlights, color LCDscreens, pulse
sensors, and more. Which ones do you remember playing with? In honor of our 25th anniversary, we'd
like to highlight the first-generation Digital Monster series and the second-generation Digimon Pendulum
(1998), as well as the Digimon that came from them.

An ancient Dinosaur Digimon that existed in the prehistoric world. Tyrannomon mows
down everything with its two powerful arms and massive tail. It possesses intelligence

commodity among beginning Tamers, many of whom raise theirs with care. One could
say it represents what Digimon are all about. It uses its special move Fire Breath to
exhale flames the same color as its deep crimson body.

MetalGreymon fires bionic missiles from a hatch that opens in its chest.

move, Poison, converts the opponent's power into dark energy, annihilating the foe from

Digital Monster Ver. 1 was released on June 26, 1997 in Japnan. As Tyrannomon was the first
Digimon printed on the product's packaging, the image that came to mind for many when thinking
of of Digital Monster back then was most likely of Tyrannomon. For a long time, Tyrannomon did
not have a Mega form of its own. Not until the creation of RustTyrannomon, which has become a
fan favorite in its own right.

Digimon from the Games

The Digital Monster franchise started with virtual pets, but it has spawned many video games since. Let'stake a
look back at them, from the games that our oldest fans remember fondly to the newest titles that have recently
come out. The first game that was developed in the wake of the virtual pet toy's success was released on the
Sega Saturn. After that, development continued to push the boundaries of each generation's technology, with
games for PlayStation, WonderSwan, Nintendo DS, and so on. In particular, Bandai developed many Digimon
games alongside its own console WonderSwan (1999), which captivated children everywhere. In this exhibit,
we wouldliketo showcaseillustrationsof the Digimonthatmadetheir debutin thesegames.

A Powerful Beast Man Digimon with arms strong enough to break all things, and legs
powerful enough to crush even the sturdiest objects underfoot. Despite this strength,
Gorillamon surprises opponents with nimble movements unthinkable with its frame,
taking the chance to bring the pain with the energy cannon on its right arm. Its aesthetics
are evident in its hit-and-run tactics. Itsspecial move Power Attack is incredibly powerful,
indeed.

Vilemon is a strong-willed Little Devil Digimon that’s a terribly sore loser. As a result, it
refuses to engage in combat directly, instead needling and tormenting those weaker
than itself like the coward that it is. It’s thought to be the source of all Dark Digimon living
in the Dark Area, but many mysteries around it still remain. Its special move is Nightmare
Shock, whereby it produces supersonic waves from its mouth to trap opponents in a
nightmare from which they can never awake.

Special Move : TwinNeptune

With a hard outer shell like a shrimp and huge pincers, Ebidramon is an outlier among
the Dramon-species Digimon. Even so, those who underestimate it based on its looks are
sure to fall prey to the powerful attacks of the species. Its special move is Twin Neptune,
by which it attacks with its two pincers.

It all began at the turn of the century: 1999. As the 21st century drew near, the world was gripped
by anxiety, stoked by fears of the Prophecies of Nostradamus coming to pass and the Y2K scare.
Against this backdrop, a new world was brought to the Digimon franchise in the form of an anime.
In Japan, its broadcast was accompanied by a multitude of toys—not limited to virtual pets and
games, Digimon burst onto the scene as a multimedia franchise. Since then, the sight of young boys
and girls adventuring and growing up alongside Digimon has moved many. 2022 marked the 20th
anniversary of the anime Digimon Frontier. Featuring over 100 musical compositions including a
catchy theme song and modern soundtrack, it is abeloved Digimon series which has stood the test

1. Digimon Project 2020-2022

Digimon Project began in January 2020 with the trailer "Welcome to Digimon World." A series of
short movies designed to provide a visualization of the Vital Bracelet, a wearable virtual pet,
Digimon Project 2021 was released on Bandai's official YouTube channel in October 2020. There
have been five episodes so far.

2. New TV Series, Animated Feature Films, and Comics

Digimon Ghost Game, Digimon's newest anime series, was broadcast on Japanese television starting in October 2021.
When the main character, Hiro Amanokawa, gets a watch-like device called a Digivice left to him by his father, he
becomes able to see Digimon who have gotten lost in the real world. From there, Hiro and his Partner Digimon
Gammamon get wrapped up all sorts of mysterious goings-on. Many Digimon from previous eras, like Clockmon and
Mummymon, make an appearance in the series.
In addition to the new anime, a new manga called Digimon Dreamers from Tenya Yabuno is being published monthly in
Saikyo Jump, and a new animated movie called DIGIMON ADVENTURE02 THEBEGINNING will be released in Japan
in 2023.

3. Current Digimon Products

Fromwhenit was firstintroduced to the world 25 years ago untiltoday, Digimonhas always enjoyed the support of itsmany fans. In
April 2020, Digimonreturned to television for the first time in over three years with the anime DigimonAdventure, followed by
DigimonGhost Game in October 2021. The new DigimonCard Game released alongside the anime in April2020 is now available
in three languages in a total of 48 regions. Most of the illustrationson display at this exhibitionwere created for the DigimonCard
Game. A new wearable virtualpet toy was released in March 2021: the VitalBracelet DigitalMonster. As it isequipped witha pulse
sensor, the user's Digimonis raised according to data created by their daily activity. It appears in DigimonGhost Game as the
Digivice.And as for Digimonvideo games, the DigimonStory:Cyber Sleuthseries has sold over 1,500,000 copies around the world,
DigimonSurvivewas released in July 2022, and DigimonWorld: Next Order is coming in February 2023.

25th Anniversary Commemoration Corner

The 25th Anniversary Commemorative Illustrations are

the work of six creators, including Digimon designer
Kenji Watanabe. These 12 illustrations were designed
especially for this exhibition with "Digital.Monsters" as
the base for the themes and motifs.

Also on display are the Grand Prize and Second Prize

winners of the Digimon Illustration Competition, a total
of eight pieces. These illustrations are from the open
competition held simultaneously in Japan and the
United States in 2021, and appear in the Digimon
Card Game Promo Pack exclusively for exhibition
attendees.

Illustration Competition Winning Entries

The Digimon IllustrationCompetition was conceived as a way for fans to join us in exploring new possibilitiesfor
Digimon. Eight Digimon, each with their own unique characteristics, were chosen for the theme, and the
competition was held in both Japan and the United States in December 2021. Here, we showcase the Grand
Prize and Second Prize winners, a total of eight illustrations selected from a huge number of entries. These
illustrations of Agumon, Patamon, Terriermon, Gammamon, Numemon, Devimon, Lillymon, and
Machinedramon were done by eight talented creators, and you can see their unique style in each one. We hope
you enjoy them.

strength and intelligence. Any Digimon can become a Numemon if it isn’t raised

These illustrations were made especially for this exhibition, centered around the concepts of "Digital Monsters’
25th anniversary" and "virtual pet toy."
The 12 Rookie, Champion, and Ultimate Digimon in the illustrations are the ones that could be raised in
the original virtual pet toy: Agumon, Betamon, Tyrannomon, Greymon, Devimon, Meramon, Airdramon,
Seadramon, Numemon, MetalGreymon, Mamemon, and Monzaemon. They were drawn by six different
creators, including Digimon designer Kenji Watanabe, and each is a reflection of the artists' emotions and

monster, and is thought to be close to a god. It specializes in mid-air combat, invoking

nature, with a high intelligence to match. Even so, it is nearly impossible for the average
Tamer to control it. It uses its special move Spinning Needle to generate a sharp vacuum
blade from the thrashing of its humongous wings.

Aggressive by nature, Greymon uses its sharp claws and colossal horns as lethal

defensive Firewall built to prevent illegal intrusion into networks such as the Internet,

touches to a crisp. Possessing the most powerful flames of its ilk on File Island, this
Digimon is extremely difficult to tame. Even those who tame it can’t predict when it will
turn on them. Meramon uses its special move Burning Fist to flare up its arms before
punching the opponent.

A Digimon shrouded in mystery. Monzaemon looks like an ordinary stuffed bear,

but rumor has it that someone—or something—has climbed in through the zipper on

with scary eyes), and makes them feel happy. It uses its special move Hearts Attack
to flings hearts at the enemy.

A new Digimon project begins!
PROJECT Introduction
The Digital World—a land entirely unlike that which humans call the real world. This
cyberspace built upon the network is home to digital monsters known as Digimon. The
discovery of these Al lifeforms is both a blessing and a curse to human society, which
relies on the network to manage everything in their world.

Eiji Nagasumi is 19 years old, a "loser" cracker who earns daily money with
dangerous work related to the Digital World. One day, Professor Ryusenji of the
Tokyo Cyber University, entrusts Eiji with a Digimon Linker, the newest model of
Digimon dock—along with a Digimon. When Eiji meets Loogamon, a Wolf Digimon
with a mysterious interface on its head, his life is changed completely.

JUDGE, a justice hacker who hates crackers.

DIGIPOLICE, Investigative Unit Eleven of the Metropolitan Police Department's
Cybercrimes Division whose mission is to stop Digimon crimes.
As well as SoC: Sons of Chaos, an extremist crack team led by legendary cracker
TARTARUS...

Ryusenji sends Eiji to infiltrate and investigate SoC. He discovers that they are
planning a widescale cyberterror attack. What is the special skill known as Mind
Link? What are the answers to Loogamon's missing past and true specs? Will Eiji
come out on top in the Digital World and turn his life around...2
