Lab 07: Design of Screw Jack

Question: Design and draw (in solid works) a manually operated screw jack (total hand force, P =
720 N) with a load carrying capacity of 100 kN and maximum lifting height of 0.5 m.
Consider the following data for the design:

• Coefficient of friction between steel screw and bronze: 0.18.

• The permissible bearing pressure, Sb between screw and nut = 10 N/mm2 .

Design process for screw jack

Step: 1 Calculate the core diameter


Calculate the core diameter, dc of the screw by considering compressive load:

Step: 2 Check for combined torsion, compression and bending
