Parachute missions are tricky and the loss of an officer
can result in the failure of the mission. Therefore platoon
sergeants are briefed on every detail of the mission in
the event their officer is separated from the platoon.
Parachute Rifle and Airborne Engineer Platoons use the
German Mission Tactics special rules (see page 242 of the
Flames Of War rulebook).

When the Grenadiers arrived in Nijmegen on 19 September,


the US 82nd Airborne Division was stalled trying to secure
the southern end of the pivotal Nijmegen Bridge. Together
with the paratroopers, the Grenadiers made a daring all-
Gammon Bombs
out assault on Nijmegen Bridge. All Rifle/MG and SMG teams in the Parachute Rifle Platoon
carry Gammon Bombs giving them Tank Assault 3.
The Grenadiers joined up with the 505th Parachute Infantry
Regiment and assaulted the bridge from the south through
Hunner Park. The bold assault worked and the bridge was
secured just as the sun was setting.
