The above test is limited to the qualitative detection of plasmodium protozoan antigen in whole blood.
This test is based on detection of specific antigens secreted by the protozoan parasite P.falciparum and
P.vivax- PHRP-II and Pv-LDH respectively.
In the gametogony stage P.falciparum may not secrete its specific antigen and such carriers may test
negative.Genetic diversity in some P.falciparum isolates may also give false negative results;as may also
happen if the antigen is below the detection limits of the assay.
Conditions of pain,fever,high titres of heterophile antibodies,certain medications and blood components
may interfere with the assay.
Please interpret in conjunction with other diagnostic procedures and clinical findings.
