1. FACTUAL INFORMATION
The facilitator got a called from the department of health to have a short
meeting with the victims of substance abuse. The meeting was in the
department of health office on the 11th of August around 15:00. Before starting
with the meeting, the facilitator first looked at what would be the best method
of use: qualitative or quantitative method. The facilitator decided to used
qualitative method, because, according to Loraine Busetto (2020), some
questions cannot be answered with quantitative research methods and is a
better research method if the researcher would like to understand opinions.
She introduced her self to the members with a smile, asked each member’s
name and thank them for agreeing to be part of the awareness. She promised
them that sensitive information about them will not be shared with no one
except her social worker supervisor but only if there’s a need. The facilitator
then asked the 3 members if they were really sure that they will participate in
the event, members agreed and she asked them the following questions:
 What brought you to treatment?
 How was your life changed since getting clean?
 What would your life be like if you weren’t addicted to something?
 Will you recommend people to go to rehab centre?

By so doing the facilitator was preparing them for the event.

2 SKILLS
As the student social worker greets the client, proposition 17 from the person
centred approach was applied. The preposition is about creating a safe
working environment for the client as this makes the client free to share their
experiences (Qalinge, Mathe & Mbedzi 2019:39). Verbal and nonverbal
communication which is the exchange of words between two or more people.
The student social worker applied the value of confidentiality as the right of
the client to privacy and it means that the student social worker is not to
disclose of the clients shared information without their consent.

3 EVALUATION
Half of the goal was reached by the facilitator but she couldn’t draft the
programme as she was urgently called for a meeting. The meeting was very
informative. The people I spoke to was kind of shy at 1 st but I created an ice-
breaker to create a friendly atmosphere for them to be comfortable. One of them
asked me if I want to take someone close to me to the rehab I said no, and asked
him why he said the way im determined with this awareness is like I want to help
someone close to my heart, I smiled and said that yes that is my job as a social
worker to give people solutions to their problems.

4 PLANNING
The plan was not fulfilled as something came up so the plan was to continue with
drafting a programme for the meeting with all guest speakers for the day and
send it to my supervisor to show her and let her fix anything that needs to be
fixed
