Introduction
Consumer Awareness refers to the understanding that consumers have of their rights and
responsibilities in the marketplace. It helps people make informed decisions about the
goods and services they purchase.

Case Study 1: Misleading Advertisement
Incident: A consumer bought a fairness cream advertised as “100% result in 7 days.” After
two weeks, no visible results were seen.
Action Taken: The consumer filed a complaint with the Consumer Forum. The court ruled in
the consumer's favor, ordering compensation and a warning to the company.
Lesson: Always read terms and disclaimers. Misleading ads can be challenged legally.
Case Study 2: Expired Product Sale
Incident: A student purchased a packet of biscuits from a local store. After eating some, they
noticed the product was expired.
Action Taken: The complaint was raised with the Food Safety Department, and the
shopkeeper was penalized.
Lesson: Always check expiry dates before buying food products.
Role of Government and NGOs

Conclusion
Consumer awareness is vital for a fair and just society. Every individual must know their
rights and take responsibility to be an informed and alert consumer.
