GROUP ASSIGNMENT 2
SEMESTER 2, SESSION 2017
COURSE CODE: CEng 3062
COURSE: REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES I
DEPARTEMENT: HYDRAULIC AND WATER RESOURCES ENGINEERING
PROGRAMME: REGULAR
ASSIGNED DATE: 07-05-2025
DUE DATE: 16-05-2025
INSTRUCTION:
1. Form groups of not more than 6 students. Each group will submit one
report.
2. The report should include:
•
A cover page with the course title, assignment title, group
members' names, and IDs.
• Clear and concise answers to all questions.
• Properly labeled diagrams and illustrations.
• References (if any) in a consistent format (Use APA format).
3. Use ES EN 2015 as the primary reference for material properties and
design philosophy.
4. Ensure all diagrams are neat, legible, and properly explained in the
text.

CEng 3062: Group Assignment 3
Topic: Reinforced Concrete Solid Slab Analysis and Design
1. Consider a floor plan shown below. All panels in the floor level are supposed
to serve for office purpose. The slabs are supposed to resist 1 hour fire and
is designed for a design life of 50 years. A partition load of 1.5kN/m2 can be
considered. The material to be used are concrete class of C25/30 and S-460
(Class B) steel. The finishing materials are 20mm marble, 30mm cement
screed and 20mm ceiling plaster. Assume the thickness of the slab to be
150mm. Take the following parameters: (5 Pts.)
✓ Unit weight of Marble floor finish (γff) = 27kN/m3
✓ Unit weight of Cement screed (γcs) = 23kN/m3
✓ Unit weight of Reinforced concrete (γff) = 25kN/m3
✓ Unit weight of Ceiling plaster (γpl) = 23kN/m3
a) Design all the panels and show the reinforcement on sketch of plan
b) Determine the load transfer to beams on axis A and axis 2.

CEng 3062: Group Assignment 3
Topic: Flexural and Shear Design of Rectangular Singly Reinforced
Concrete Beams
2. Design a cantilever rectangular beam of span 2.0 m. The beam is to carry
a superimposed service live load of 16 kN/m and superimposed dead load
of 12 kN/m. C25/30 grade of concrete and S-500 (Class B) reinforcement
shall be used. (5 Pts)
3. A simply supported rectangular concrete beam 360 mm wide and 480 mm
effective depth is having 4 bottom reinforcement bars of 18 mm diameter
to resist the maximum bending moment at the center, and 2 top
reinforcement bars. In addition to this, two legged vertical stirrups 8 mm
diameter are also provided at 150 mm spacing. Determine the total shear
strength of beam at the transverse section near the beam support. Consider
grade of concrete is C30/35 and steel reinforcement grade of S-500 (Class
B). (5 Pts)
