DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN EPP (AGRI-FISHERY ARTS) VI

SECOND QUARTER

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to:

A. identify the different kinds of four-legged animals/fishes being


raised as means of livelihood.
B. share the importance of animal/fish raising as means of
livelihood.
C. demonstrate the proper way of handling and caring for farm
animals and fish to ensure their health and growth.

livelihood of many Filipino
families
today. This can be done in
one’s backyard and with
enough knowledge and skill, it
can be one of the most
successful and profitable
business today.

Animal raising can lead to


different entrepreneurial
endeavors ranging from the
sale of live animals and fish to
the production of by-products
including meat. If you decide
to do a project or to be a good
entrepreneur in animal or fish
raising, it is best to survey
first or to check the area
where you are situated.

 Conducting a Survey
When you conduct your own
survey, take your time and
get as much information
before you finally begin
farming. Hence, it is best to
take initial steps such as know
your area, know the local
animal and fish industry,
know the people in the
community, know your
market, and learn from
others.

 Persons in the in the

1. Animal raisers- those
people in the
community whose
occupation is to raise
four-legged animals.
2. Fish farmers- those
people in the

a fish.

 Animals that can be Raised


as Means of Livelihood:

A. Four-legged animals
1. Pig- is also known as
hog or swine. Their meat
and entrails are in demand
as food. They are sold for
other reason besides
source of food. They can
be sold as a breeder or as
piglets to be raised by
other growers.
2. Goat- they can be easy
to raise. They are hoofed
mammals in the genus
“Capra”. They are
herbivores (plant eaters).
They only eat grass, herbs,
tree leaves, and other
plant material. They are
raised for their meat and
milk.
3. Cow/ cattle - is raised in
many reasons. Their milk is
the major ingredient in
making cheese and other
dairy products. Their meat
(beef) is a source of food.
Their skin is used as the
raw materials for making
bags and shoes.
4. Carabao/ Swamp-type
water buffalo - is a prized
symbol of a farmer's
wealth and is an integral
component of Philippine
agriculture. The carabao
provides animal protein in
the form of meat and milk;
as well as hides and horns
(which have many
economic uses) and
manure, a potential
organic fertilizer for the
farm.

B. Fish
1. Tilapia- they can be
grown in fresh water like
ponds, tanks, and cage
systems. They come in
several colors, but red and
black tilapia is the most
well-known species. Fresh
tilapia is also an excellent
source of phosphorous,
niacin, selenium, vitamin
B12, and potassium
2. Bangus or Milkfish- is
the main aquaculture
product in the Philippines.
It can survive in the
confined fresh or salty
water fish pens and marine
cages. They are grown as
source of food. Their meat
is tasty.
3. Catfish- are named for
their prominent barbels
which resembles a cat’s
whiskers. People raise
catfish for food because it
grows fast and is easy to
take care of. Its meat is
soft, tasty, and used in
many Filipino dishes like
grilled catfish.

 Factors to consider in
raising animals/fish
1. Food and water
2. House and shelter
3. Maintain cleanliness
4. Veterinary check-up
5. Disposal of animal
manure.

 Market Demands for


Animal Products and By-
products:

Products- refers to the


materials from the body of
the four-legged
animals/fish that have not
undergone any process like
fat, meat, skin, organs,
bloods, milk, hair, bones
and hooves.

By-Products- materials
derived from a production
process, manufacturing
process or chemical
reaction like soap, canned
goods, bags, omega fish
oil, string instruments and
many more.
