1. Full Meaning of AutoCAD

AutoCAD stands for Automatic Computer-Aided Design/Drafting. It is a software application

used for 2D and 3D design and drafting.

2. Advantages and Disadvantages of Using AutoCAD in the Automotive Field

Advantages:

Compatibility – Works with various file formats for manufacturing and simulation.

Precision and Accuracy – Allows for detailed and accurate designs.

Time Efficiency – Speeds up the design process.

3D Modeling – Enables visualization of automotive parts.

Easy Modification – Designs can be easily edited and updated.

Disadvantages:

Steep Learning Curve – Requires time and expertise to master.

High Cost – Expensive to maintain software and training.

Hardware Requirements – Needs a powerful computer to run efficiently.

3. Definitions of Acronyms in AutoCAD

NAMES
WCS (World Coordinate System) – The default coordinate system in AutoCAD where all objects
are positioned.

UCS (User Coordinate System) – A customized coordinate system defined by the user to aid in
drawing and modeling.

4. Importance of Creating Layers in AutoCAD

Organizes drawings for better management.

Allows independent editing of specific elements.

Improves visibility by controlling colors and line types.

Helps in grouping similar elements.

5. Difference Between Absolute and Relative Coordinate Systems

Absolute Coordinate System: Uses fixed points from the origin (0,0).

Relative Coordinate System: Uses the last drawn point as a reference for the next point.

6. Difference Between Line and Polyline Command

Line Command: Creates separate line segments that are not connected.

Polyline Command: Creates a continuous series of connected line segments that act as a single
object.

7. Steps for Using Specific Commands in AutoCAD

Fillet: Select two lines → Use the FILLET command → Specify the radius → Apply fillet.

Chamfer: Select two lines → Use CHAMFER command → Set chamfer distances → Apply
chamfer.

Trim: Select the cutting edge → Use TRIM command → Select objects to trim.

Copy: Select objects → Use COPY command → Specify base point → Specify destination.

NAMES
Changing Color: Select objects → Open PROPERTIES panel → Change color.

8. Three Ways of Issuing Commands in AutoCAD

Command Line: Typing the command directly.

Toolbar/Ribbon: Clicking icons for commands.

Shortcut Keys: Using keyboard shortcuts (e.g., Ctrl + C for Copy).

9. Steps to Create a New Drawing

Open AutoCAD.

Click on New Drawing or type NEW in the command line.

Select a template or use a default blank file.

Set units and layers before starting the drawing.

10. Steps to Save a Drawing as a PDF

Click File → Print or use the PLOT command.

Select PDF Printer as the output device.

Set page size and plot area.

Click OK and save the PDF file.

11. Steps to Draw a Circle in AutoCAD

Use the CIRCLE command.

Choose a method:

Center and radius (default method).

Center and diameter.

2-point or 3-point circle.

NAMES
Enter values and complete the command.

12. Difference Between Wireframe and Solid Diagrams

Wireframe: Displays only edges and lines, making objects appear transparent.

Solid Diagram: Shows a fully rendered 3D object with surfaces and volume.

13. Functions of AutoCAD Commands

Command Name Function

Erase Deletes selected objects from the drawing.

Oops Restores the last erased object.

Move Moves objects from one location to another.

Array Creates multiple copies of objects in a pattern (rectangular, polar, or path).

Zoom Adjusts the view of the drawing by magnifying or shrinking.

Pan Moves the view of the drawing without changing the zoom level.

14. Three Methods of Deleting a Drawing in AutoCAD

Erase Command – Select objects and type ERASE.

Delete Key – Select objects and press Delete on the keyboard.

Undo Command – Type UNDO if deletion was accidental.

15. Steps to Draw the Given Diagram in AutoCAD

Step 1-- We will start by drawing a rectangle with the following dimensions

NAMES
Step 2---You should be able to find the middle of each side, so create a gap of 100 and 60
cantered at the middle of each side. And draw a line perpendicular of 20 of length. The line will
help draw arcs since will need 3 points to draw each of our arcs. You also need to draw a
diagonal, this will serve to draw the circle, we need to be able to draw a circle cantered right at
the centre of our rectangle.

Here we can draw our circle with no hassle using the diagonal of the rectangle, and we are sure
the circle is at its right place.

NAMES
Step 3

Use the ARC command to draw arcs. In this task you can choose to draw only 2 arcs, and use the
MIRROR command to obtain the 2 others.

Step 4

In this step you draw those rectangles with rounded corners. There is a
trick which allows you to start the beginning of a line at a specific

now your mouse in that position, and type a digit using your keyboard, if
you did it well, you should notice that the beginning of the line has been
created at the distance and toward the direction you specified.

Step 5

Now draw the arcs of radius 10 on each edge of the rectangle we have
just drawn. Use the FILLET command.

3 . Ty p e “ 1 0 ” a n d p r e s s E N T E R

4. Select the first side of the corner to round

5. Select the second side of the corner to round

2 and 3, for the other corners, go from 1 to 4, 5. AutoCAD have saved the
dimension of the radius you specified and will keep it like the default
value while using this command until you decide to change it. By default,
the value of this radius is set to zero, that is why you changed it.

Step 7

Now use the MIRROR command to obtain the rectangle on the right, since
it is a symmetry of the figure we have just drawn. Use the centre of the

finally the diagram will be like this
