Power Control

1 Activating AMR Progressive Power Control

Purpose
AMR Progressive Power Control (AMR PPC) is an enhancement to the existing Power
Control (PC) algorithm running in the BSC and controlling the transmitting power of the
MS and the BTS. AMR PPC is application software and requires a valid licence in the
BSC.

Before you start

Requirements
• BSC S13 software, or later
• A licence covering AMR PPC is installed. For more information, see Licensing in
BSC.
• The AMR full rate or AMR half rate functionality must be active in the BSC, before
the AMR PPC can be activated. For instructions, see Activating and Testing
BSS10004: AMR.

Steps

1 Check that the feature state of AMR HR or AMR FR is 'ON' (W7I).

AMR HR:
ZW7I:FEA,FULL:FEA=1;
AMR FR:
ZW7I:FEA,FULL:FEA=72;

2 Check that the licence covering AMR PPC has been installed (W7I).
ZW7I:LIC,FULL:LIC=<licence code>;

3 Check the value of the AMR PPC feature states (W7I).

Downlink AMR PPC:
ZW7I:FEA,FULL:FEA=578;
Uplink AMR PPC:
ZW7I:FEA,FULL:FEA=606;

4 Turn the AMR PPC feature states 'ON' if needed (W7M).

Downlink AMR PPC:
ZW7M:FEA=578:ON;
Uplink AMR PPC:
ZW7M:FEA=606:ON;

5 Check that the change of the AMR PPC feature states succeeded (W7I).
Downlink AMR PPC:

2 Testing AMR Progressive Power Control

Purpose
The activation of AMR PPC can be tested with 111 AMR Progressive Power Control
Measurement.

Before you start

Make sure that the following network elements and mobile stations are available:
• 1 MSC
• 1 BSC with S13 software, or later
• 1 AMR-capable BTS
• 2 AMR-capable MSS
• NetAct OSS4.2 CD1, or later

Steps

1 Modify AMR Progressive Power Control Measurement (TPM).

ZTPM:MEASUR,AMR_PPC:ALL,0-0-24-0,60;

2 Start AMR Progressive Power Control Measurement (TPS).

ZTPS:MEASUR,AMR_PPC;

3 Wait until the measurement is enabled and check it (TPI).

ZTPI:MEASUR,AMR_PPC;

4 Make a test call, or calls.

5 Check the measurement data.

At the end of the measurement period, check the measurement data in Nokia NetAct or
in the BSC by using the MEFICO tool.
Check that the counters of AMR Progressive Power Control Measurement have been
updated.
For more information, see:
• Reporter and Performance Management Principles in Nokia NetAct Product Docu-
mentation
• Converting BSC Measurement and Observation Result Files with MEFICO

Expected outcome
The counters of AMR Progressive Power Control Measurement have been updated.

6 Stop AMR Progressive Power Control Measurement (TPE).

3 Deactivating AMR Progressive Power

Control
Steps

1 Turn the AMR PPC feature states 'OFF' (W7M).

Downlink AMR PPC:
ZW7M:FEA=578:OFF;
Uplink AMR PPC:
ZW7M:FEA=606:OFF;

2 Check that the change of the AMR PPC feature states succeeded (W7I).
Downlink AMR PPC:
ZW7I:FEA,FULL:FEA=578;
Uplink AMR PPC:
ZW7I:FEA,FULL:FEA=606;

Expected outcome
When the AMR PPC for downlink and AMR PPC for uplink feature states have been
turned 'OFF', the activated AMR Progressive Power Control Measurement stops auto-
matically.
