1. The map below is of the town of Garlsdon.

A new supermarket (S) is planned for

the town. The map shows two possible sites for the supermarket.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make
comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.

This map shows two potential sites for constructing a new supermarket in the city of
Garlsdon.

Overall, the industrial zone appears to be larger in size compared to the residential area.It is
also clear that location S2 has more advantages compared to S1 as it serves more people.

Based on the data, the S1 area is situated in the northeastern part of the town, approximately
12 kilometers from Hindon, and has a population of around 10,000 people. It is closer to the
upper residential zone compared to S2. Although positioned between the railway and the
main road, S1 is also in closer proximity to the industrial zone.
As for the S2 location, it is situated in the central part of the town, with a population of
65,000 and is positioned near the railway line. Although surrounded by the industrial zone, it
is located 25 kilometers from Carnsdon, which has a population of 29,000, and 16 kilometers
from Bransdon, home to 15,000 people.

2. The diagrams show a structure that is used to generate electricity from wave
power.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make
comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.

The diagrams depict the process of generating electricity using wave energy. The two
diagrams show different processes: the first shows how energy is used, and the second shows
how the generated electricity is distributed.
Overall, the system consists of a device featuring a column, a turbine, and a chamber, which
is installed on a cliff or sea wall.

It is evident that the process of generating electricity begins with the rotation and movement
of the turbine. This motion, driven by air flow, converts kinetic energy into electrical energy.
The chamber is positioned close to the waves to help regulate the flow of air and water.

In contrast, the second diagram illustrates the reverse process in greater detail, outlining the
operational sequence. The entire system changes the direction of its rotation and transfers
energy back into the sea or ocean, effectively demonstrating the overall mechanism and
offering clear insight into how it functions.

3. The diagram below shows how the Australian Bureau of Meteorology collects
up-to-the-minute information on the weather in order to produce reliable
forecasts.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below. Write at least
150 words.
The diagram shows the process of collecting data on weather conditions to create
accurate forecasts, as recorded every minute by the Australian Bureau of
Meteorology.

Overall, the procedure involves four main stages, starting from receiving weather data
and ending with delivering the forecast to the public.

As shown in the diagram, the initial data is gathered from multiple sources, including
satellites, radar, and drifting buoys. Information collected via radar is displayed on
both the radar screen and the synoptic chart. Similarly, data from drifting buoys is
presented in the synoptic chart. In contrast, satellite data is visualized through satellite
images as well as on the radar screen.

All the gathered and analyzed data is then entered into a computer system for the
preparation of weather reports. Once the forecasts are ready, they are broadcast to the
public via television, radio, and pre-recorded announcements. This process happens
with all other data again after completion.

4. The diagram below shows the process by which bricks are manufactured for the
building industry.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make
comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.

The diagram shows the process involved in the production of bricks used in the construction
industry.

Overall, the procedure includes seven main stages, beginning with clay extraction and ending
with the delivery of the finished bricks.

The process begins with a digger extracting clay from the ground. The clay then passes
through a metal grid that filters out larger chunks, while the smaller particles are moved along
by a roller. After that, sand and water are mixed with the clay to create a paste. This mixture
is shaped into bricks using one of two methods: either by pressing it into molds or cutting it
into shape with a wire cutter.
Next, the formed bricks are placed in a drying oven for 24 to 48 hours to remove moisture.
Following this, they are placed in a kiln, first at a moderate temperature between 200 and 980
degrees Celsius, then at a higher temperature of up to 1300 degrees Celsius. In the final stage
of the process, the bricks are cooled for 48 to 72 hours. Once fully cooled, they are packed
and prepared for distribution.

5. The given pie charts compare the expenses in 7 different categories in 1966 and
1996 by American Citizens.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below. Write at least 150
words.
The two graphs present data on the spending habits of people in the USA across seven
different categories: food, cars, petrol, restaurants, books, furniture, and computers. The first
chart shows the expenditure distribution for 1966, while the second depicts the figures for
1996.

Overall, the share of American spending varied noticeably between the two years.

Looking at the first chart, it is clear that the largest portion of American spending is on cars,
accounting for approximately 44%. Books and restaurants share the second highest
expenditure, each making up 14% of the total. The data also indicates that cars, books,
restaurants, and computers together represent most of the spending by Americans, totalling
over 77% of the overall expenses.

On the other hand, the situation is quite different in the second chart. It is evident that food
takes the leading position, accounting for around 45% of spending. Cars come in second,
making up approximately 23%. Moreover, cars, food, and furniture are the top spending
categories for Americans, together reaching nearly 73%.

6. The pie charts below show information on the highest level of education of
women in Someland in 1945 and 1995.

Write a report for a university lecturer. You should write at least 150 words.
7. Pie Chart + Line Graph:

The charts below show the percentage of food budget the average family spent on
restaurant meals in different years. The graph shows the number of meals eaten in fast
food restaurants and sit-down restaurants.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information in the graph below. Write at
least 150 words.
The provided pie chart illustrates the percentage of people who dined at restaurants across
four different years, while the line graph displays the quantity of food served in both fast-
food and sit-down restaurants over the same period.

Overall, it is notable that the number of people preparing meals at home decreased, while the
number of meals consumed at restaurants increased over the 30-year period.

The pie chart shows that initially, only 10% of spending was on restaurant meals, but this
figure rose sharply over time, eventually equaling the amount spent on home-cooked meals.

The line graph reveals that both fast food and sit-down restaurant meals started at the same
level, around 20 units. However, fast food experienced a significant rise in popularity,
reaching 85 by the year 2000. In contrast, meals from sit-down restaurants increased more
gradually, reaching approximately 50 by the same year.

8. Column Graph + Pie Chart:

The graph below shows CO2 emissions for different forms of transport in the European
Union. The Pie Chart shows the percentage of European Union funds being spent on
different forms of transport.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information in the graph below. Write at
least 150 words.
