Analysis and Discussion
What sun provides to earth?
How plants, animals, humans use
the energy from the sun?
In your locality, how will you prove
that the sun brings an important
task in everything we do? Cite
examples.
How is sun important to all living
things?
Teacher will facilitate the
interactions.
Teacher’s in-depth discussion
Key concept:
Plants use suns energy to produce
their food, and for the other
organisms which cannot make food
by themselves. The energy of the
sun is stored in food in the form of
chemical energy.
Humans use the energy of the sun
to produce electricity. Electricity in
turn, is used to operate machines
and to light our houses and streets
at night. It is also used in
communications.
Humans also use the energy of the
sun as the source of fuels for
burning and for transportation.
Energy from the sun is responsible
for the evaporation of water.
Without this energy, the water cycle
would not take place.

1. What does the activities done depict?

processes continue without the water
cycle? Why? Or Why not?
3. Do you think balance in nature will be
achieved if water cycle processes are
not complete? Why do you think so?
4. Why is the water cycle important?
5. Describe each process.
- Key Concept:
- The water part of the earth is called
hydrosphere or “water cycle”. This covers
three-fourth of its surface. Therefore, water
covers a larger area of its surface than
land. That is why the earth is called “the
blue planet”. Water gives the earth its
characteristics of blue color as seen from
outer space.
- Water continuously moved in the earth’s
surface in a process called water cycle.
- Although there is a continuous cycle of
water, you might wonder if there will come
a time when we will run out of water, you
might wonder if there will come a time
when we will run out of water. Do you
know that about 97% of the water found in
our surrounding is salty? Thus, only 3% of
this water is fresh or potable. This very
small amount of fresh water is 67% locked
in the form of ice mainly found in rivers,
lakes, ponds, and in the atmosphere in the
form of water vapor.

- Teacher’s in-depth discussion
- Key Concept:
- The Sun heats the water causing a change from the
liquid state of matter to the gaseous state of matter.
(water to water vapor)
- After the Sun has caused the water to evaporate, the
water droplets condense into water drops. The water
drops condense further in the clouds. You can also see
condensation on the outside of your glass during the
summer. The Sun warms the air. The warm air (which
contains water vapor) hits the side of the cold glass and
condenses into water drops.
- After the Sun has caused the water to evaporate, the
water droplets condense into water drops. The water
drops condense further. When they get heavy enough,
the drops fall to the Earth as precipitation, such as rain,
snow, sleet, or hail.
- When water accumulates, such as in rivers, streams,
lakes and oceans, the Sun heats the water, causing the
water to change from liquid to a gas and evaporate.
- The Sun heats the Earth unevenly. The difference
between the hot areas and colder areas keeps the air
moving (circulating). The moving of the cold and warm
air changes the air pressure. The moving air and
changing air pressure creates wind. The Sun also
contributes to the evaporation of water, which then
condenses, and eventually falls back to the Earth in the
form of precipitation.
- The Sun is the energy source that causes water to
circulate in nature.
- The Sun heats water on Earth which then evaporates
into the atmosphere.
