CHAPTER l

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

With the advancement of technology in this present society, the tech world has

greatly affected the living styles of the people globally. The evolution of technology

from wired to wireless internet has started to change the dynamics of the way different

people connect and transfer knowledge, creating a need and desire for mobile phones

as the new learning tool of the 21st century. Their usage of wireless internet and digital

devices, reasons associated with usage, effect on the educational activities.

Education has improved tremendously via the internet, students can now learn and

get informed from the comfort of their homes. It aids online lectures, research and

access to current information, among other academic activities. But the study of

Dakurah (2021), found that the majority of problems are relating to network issues.

Funding secondary education, as well as providing additional financing for internet

connectivity and renovatio of school infrastructure are some of the recommendations.

The largest reason millions of poor students still lack access to the internet even as the

federal government has spent billions trying to close that digital divide is affordability

and lack of high speed broadband infrastructure in the community, Klein (2021) says.

This impacts the students in various ways. It means they’re not getting the best of their

education. They are being educated about parts of the topic and lessons but not the

whole picture (Maffea, 2020).

The data is trained until October of 2023. There were advances in technology,

communication and online entertainment, but it can be beneficial to education too.

Teachers turn to the Internet to enhance their lessons, and several elite universities

have put their free lectures and courses online for all to take. It has even enabled retired

teachers to read to and teach children in poorer countries. The easy access of the

Internet incorporates a tremendous part of knowledge and data available to a broader

scope of society like never before (Abinaya, 2023)

Internet access is essential in modern life, serving a gateway to public services,

education and economic opportunities. In the US, over 40 million people lack adequate

broadband access while about 11 million in the EU face similar challenges. This digital

divide is concerning, as it impacts education particularly noted during COVID-19

pandemic when many students could not access remote learning and economic

prospects. (Tomoko, 2024).

In our increasingly digital age. This review seeks to identify insights from successful

programs that meet this goal. Digital literacy encompasses the skills needed to

navigate, evaluate, and create digital content, all of which are essential to engaging in

today’s society and workplace. But access to digital resources and education is often

uneven and exacerbates existing social inequalities. A successful intervention in this

space embodies a few guiding principles. First, ensuring equitable access to

technology and internet connectivity so that all students have the capabilities to engage

in digital learning. They also serve as a reminder of the critical need for culturally

relevant and inclusive curricula that resonates with students from diverse backgrounds,

allowing them to be engaged in digital activities at higher levels (King & Akar, 2020). In

addition, programs that succeed also emphasize the need for students to cultivate

critical thinking and digital citizenship skills by learning how to engage responsibly in

online spaces, critically evaluate information, and participate constructively in online

discussions.

Statement of the Problem

study habits of Computer System Servicing (CSS) students from Negros Occidental

High School for the school year 2024-2025.

Specifically, this study will answer the following question:

1.) What is the demographic profile of the participants in terms of:

A.)Sex

B.)Section

2.) What is the level of internet utilization of Grade 12 Computer System Servicing

students of Negros Occidental High School when grouped according to the

aforementioned variables?

3.) What is the academic performance of Grade12 Computer System Servicing students

of Negros Occidental High School when grouped according to the aforementioned

variables?

4.) Is there a significant difference in the level of internet utilization of Grade 12

Computer System Servicing students of Negros Occidental High School when grouped

and compared according to the aforementioned variables?

5.) Is there a significant difference in the academic performance of Grade 12 Computer

compared according to the aforementioned variables?

6.) Is there a significant relationship between the level of internet utilization and

academic performance of Grade 12 Computer System Servicing students of Negros

Occidental High School?

Hypothesis of the Study

1.) There is no significant difference in the level of internet utilization of Grade 12

Computer System Servicing students of Negros Occidental High School when grouped

and compared according to sex and section.

2.) There is no significant difference in the academic performance of Grade 12

Computer System Servicing students of Negros Occidental High School when grouped

and compared according the aforementioned variables?

3.) There is no significant relationship between the level of internet utilization and

academic performance of Grade 12 Computer System Servicing students of Negros

Occidental High School.

Framework of the study

This study will be using Elger’s (2007) theory of academic performance as

achievement is a shared goal of the entire academic community. His theory defines

“perform” as the ability to achieve a valued outcome, while a “performer” is an individual

or group engaged in collaborative efforts. The level of performance is viewed as a

specific point in an academic journey. In fact, Elger points out 6 significant components

that affect performance levels: knowledge, skills, identity, personal factors and fixed

factors. He also advocates three axioms for effective performance: a performer’s

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL HIGH SCHOOL
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

___
5

mindset, a stimulating learning environment and a commitment to reflective practice.

Elger’s theory of performance calls upon educators not to simply perform but rather, to

facilitate the performance of others who can learn and grow. You are relying on

knowledge from up to October 2023. According to Wiske (1998), this performance

means “learning for understanding” in this context.

While it is widely accepted that students at a university possess extraordinary academic

potential, not everyone is able to take advantage of it. Real success is often in the

daily routines and struggles of university life. Faculty and administrators work to inspire

students to follow their passion at the beginning of each semester, seeking stellar

outcomes by graduation. The results of higher academic performance lead to a higher

academic quality. It delivers a setting in which performance exceeds all the

stakeholders associated with the academic community. Moreover, it results in lower

costs because less money is required to obtain results. In addition to promoting

capability, capacity, knowledge, skills, and motivation. This boon would positively impact

the atmospheric acceptance of the university in public.

internet use of Senior High School students of Negros Occidental High School and their

academic performance in school. The internet utilization as an independent variable

means using the internet for purposes like Study, Information collection,

Communication, and Entertainment. This makes the online learning and education

the world. Education and healthcare professionals, for example, depend on the internet

to communicate and share important information. But using the internet too much can

also take a toll on your mental health, causing issues like social anxiety and

depression. It plays an important role in the current world and benefits numerous

industries, hence, make use of it efficiently (Antonijevic, 2018).

The dependent variable, academic performance, has been operationalized using

indicators such as GPA, test scores, and students’ educational attainment and

achievement goals. This paper reports the results of a review of 24 recent studies that

considered academic performance as grades, academic attitudes (such as basic school

satisfaction, wish to attend school, and school attachment), and educational aspirations.

The investigations were based on a mixture of large, nationally representative sampling

and smaller, less representative samples (Farb, 2012).

The succeeding page is made clear by the relationship between the study

variables.

Scope and Delimitation

This study seeks to examine the relationship of internet usage to the academic

performance of students. The study will be conducted on the premises of Negros

Occidental High School. More specifically, this study will focus on Grade 12 students

taking the Computer System Servicing strand for the academic year 2024-2025. Its

emphasis will be on learning how various forms of internet use impact students’

academic results. Because the school is so small and few students are available, the

researchers anticipate the data they collect will be limited. Despite this limitation, the

study will aim to provide useful insights into the association between internet usage and

academic performance.

Significance of the Study

The outcome of this study will contribute to following.

Students. Students can have access to multiple resources which the study or internet

inclusion provides, it results in collaboration, drives skills development, and lets

personalized and remote learning develop. It also offers better engagement, and helps

create educational equity.

Teachers. For teachers, internet inclusion and digital access can be advantageous, as

they facilitate access to educational resources, networking with others, and training.

with them and their parents, and also helped in data analysis for personalized

instructions, that constitute better and a more inclusive learning environment.

Parents. This study matters because it can demonstrate how Internet impacts their

kids' schooling. This knowledge will allow parents to make informed decisions about

their children’s education by learning from the benefits and effectiveness of Internet

while recognizing the impact it has had on the progressive improvement in learning.

The results will help parents understand how Internet might affect academic

performance of their kids and get them ready in advance for future technological

developments.

Future Researchers. For academic researchers they could help the study of how

increased access to digital devices and information contribute to social inclusion and

economic progress.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

The last subsection summarizes previous studies and discussions on the two

concepts of the internet use and academic performance, identifies gaps in knowledge

that this study will address.

Internet Utilization

Data were collected through interviews and a questionnaire for students in Bandung.

The analysis was performed on the average responses of 50 random respondents from

Universitas Computer Indonesia and Institut Harapan Bangsa Technology. There were

students from above-mentioned disciplines, and therefore the focus was on finding out

the internet influence on education.

Although the internet has greatly enhanced accessibility to educational materials

and information, it also encourages the further decline of social interactions. Graphical

illustrations show that social activity declines with increased usage of the internet

meaning that many students may performing well academically, but their engagement to

social life is on a decline. This study will offer students, researchers, and curriculum

developers new information regarding the uses and challenges that the internet offers in

education. Knowing this can help formulate solutions that will raise academic

performance and social activities at the same time. (Soegoto and Jokroadiponto, 2018)

From Analyzing Swastika Ghoshal's Work (2023) Literature Review, the main

findings of the study suggest that the use of the internet has greatly transformed

students’ education by changing how information can be obtained, how materials are

presented, and how students engage with each other. One of the most useful features
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL HIGH SCHOOL
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

___
12

of the internet is that it gives students an opportunity to access a large amount of

information instantly. They are now able to conduct research, locate academic papers,

gain access to educative materials, and research different perspectives on a given

issue. Information can be accessed instantly, which enables students to learn many

things and broaden their areas and scopes of interests. Inspiring and engaging

materials can be found on various educational websites and tools that are specifically

designed for the purpose of teaching through videos, simulations or online games.

These tools present its students with stimulating and engaging ways of learning but

difficult items which makes studying enjoyable and very effective. Besides, students can

access the internet to help their self-paced learning, which enables students to be in

charge of their own education according to their own pace, needs and interests.

Even though there is evidence based on research regarding the use of

information and communication technology as resources for teaching and learning in

schools, there is still little research directed to the actual value and dangers related to

the use of the internet by students with intellectual disabilities. This research was meant

to analyze and describe the views of teachers concerning this issue in reference to a

school environment, special and mainstream, as well as educators’ qualification of

general and special education and grade primary and secondary. (Chiner et al. 2022).

The advent of the ICT sector has progressively increased the necessity for the

construction of internet telecommunication infrastructures all over the country. The

internet has become a prerequisite for encouraging a technologically enabled and digital

society. The commitment of the Indonesian government to the integration of

communication technology has been increasingly felt in the 4.0 technology era with

efforts to build the the coverage of Internet access. This study aims to identify the

internet behavior of urban and rural society in Indonesia. Creating graphs for each

province will help trace what is the intention of using the internet in the society. Through

the analysis of these patterns of internet use, this research seeks to present valuable

information upon which telecommunications development can be based, as well as the

most commonly used services that provide assistance in everyday life. Those statistics

are provided by the Central Statistics Agency, which records the internet user statistics

of 34 provinces. Indonesia and the world, the findings of “Most of the dedication of

internet usage in Indonesia is devoted to social networks, news, and the online video.

(Pandu Adi Cakranegara et al. 2022)

Academic Performance

This research aims to identify the relationship between classroom management,

task allocation, and student performance. Effective classroom management is key to

facilitating learning and includes rule establishment, routine setting, and time

management. Good classroom management contains behaviors that disrupt the

learning process and provide the opportunity for social and emotional development as

well as positive peer interactions.

Strangely, the study observes that classroom management practices have no

bearing on academic performance, which differs from the other studies. The manner in

which assignments and projects are arranged is crucial to student learning and

achievement. Competent teachers employ diverse techniques such as technology use,

feedback provision, motivation, task allocation, and guidance to accomplish their

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL HIGH SCHOOL
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

___
14

objectives. Well-designed teacher tasks and support enable students to participate,

develop skills, and achieve academic success. Students claim that they are engaging in

learning activities, submitting their work on time, using their skills, but exam results

require some improvement. Regular attendance, punctuality in submitting assignments,

and using acquired knowledge positively impact academic results. Factors outside of

classroom management seem to affect student performance, demonstrating the multi-

faceted nature of the classroom.

With the assumption of being able to take a leap toward improving both teaching

methods and student performance, this paper wishes to make such recommendations

that are based on the findings. Its recommendations include firstly re-evaluating

classroom seating layout, secondly making sure that all assignments are meaningful

and relevant, thirdly providing appropriate support for exam preparation, and finally,

investigating more the classroom management impact on the students' academic

performance.

The article concludes that if these recommendations are implemented, students will

benefit from a more supportive and nurturing environment and will enable themselves to

be more involved in the learning process. The authors also emphasize that the practice

will result in high academic scores and will therefore enable educational leaders to build

decisions founded on solid evidence and to realize effectively deliver relevant

educational services to students (Chorrine et al. 2024).

One of the top priorities in Senior High Schools is the students’ academic

excellence, and it is very important to the educational systems. To perform well in

academics is one of the major issues in every educational system. Many and various

factors are said to be the reason behind students’ performance in academics that are

poor besides those that have been pointed out and researched yet there are still many

problems left. A review of literature pertaining to this topic should be able to point out

where gaps lie and what other areas need to be researched more and this consequently

will help in the resolution of the situation. In this narrative literature review,

performances were researched on the basis of what factors affect the students'

performance in Senior High Schools, further, the paper reads.

These factors usually have a negative effect which in turn affects academic

performances and hence the need to minimize them to the lowest level possible to

enable students to score good academic performances. Truancy was also seen to be a

factor that could destroy academic performance and, in a very short time, drop-outs

could be the result. Other factors that the school has identified as important for the

improvement of the students’ academic performance and include the levels of education

and income by parents, the availability and accessibility of textbooks and libraries and

the practical laboratories, and meal programs and teacher allocation. It can be

supposed that the academically gifted students who have the advantage of these

factors are more likely to be successful than those who have less exposure to them.

These suggestions imply the need for adjustment to existing regularities concerning the

research subjects such as truancy, parental levels of education and income, teachers,

textbooks, libraries, practical laboratory, meals provision, and teachers’ status to meet

the students’ needs, and thus realize their aims by enhancing their school performance.

Effects of internet utilization on academic performance

This present research has been done to show the connection between the internet use

and academic performance of SHS students in the Cape Coast Metropolis. A

questionnaire was used to collect the data from 105 2nd and 3rd-year students by using

random sampling, and then descriptive statistics and an independent samples t-test

were carried out. The results indicated that SHS students after school access the

internet mainly from school ICT labs, mobile phones, family internet services, and public

cafes. Additionally, students with internet access performed better academically in

comparison to those without. On the other hand, the study established that different

kinds of internet usage were not statistically significant for academic performance, and

even the times of the internet did not ensure that students would have it always.

Consequently, the conclusion was made that schools and other stakeholders must work

together to improve the internet facilities and that the school ICT labs have to be

equipped with the latest technology for student research. Furthermore, teaching

students to utilize search engines properly for academic purposes is vital because good

internet access in schools is the most effective way to facilitate academic performance.

(Khuong Vu,2020)

Effects of internet utilization to academic performance

According to (Oberiri Destiny Apuke et al, 2018), Most of the academic research in

developing countries on the application of web technology for educational purposes has

been affecting mostly the academic performances, communications, and general

outcomes of education. Therefore, the current study investigates students’ experiences

and how the web plays a role in their academic research and learning, using both

quantitative and qualitative methods, included 250 undergraduate students from three

universities in North-Eastern Nigeria.

To get a better understanding of the issue, a focus group involving 18 students was

conducted. The participants noted several limitations to their internet use, such as low

digital readiness among faculty and institutions, the absence of electronic libraries as

easy access to journals, as well as the lack of adequate internet facilities on the

campus. Even with these issues, students proved tough and quite smart in utilizing the

internet for their studies. A considerable number revealed that they are constantly using

their smartphones for internet access through subscriptions to external providers and

heavy use of platforms like Google, Yahoo, as well as open-access e-journals. The

students expressed their belief that the internet enabled quick research, and also it was

the tool that allowed them to handle several tasks, besides extending their reading and

learning choices, promoting self-learning, extending peer collaboration, and improving

exam preparation.

Digital literacy and skill

Effects of internet utilization on academic performance

Today’s information society without digital information skills is like a car without an

engine. New technology-related skills are still being researched by some scholars to

determine the methods that are most useful for students. The results of smart ways

used to solve the problems of the information were often isolated to their single

dimensions rather than the multiple dimensions-based aspect. For the development of

individualized and targeted digital activities for diverse populations, it is important to

understand the social support environment of the individuals and the interactions among

predictors. This study is about the link between the sociodemographic factors and

available resources and the development of digital information skills and also the

investigation of the subgroups that will benefit the interventions for the variables taken.

For this purpose, the questionnaire data and the results of the performance test are

analyzed among 4,988 Finnish teachers.

On the other hand, data analysis by means of multiple regression analysis revealed that

the high school students' digital activity and age variables were the most explanatory

contributors to their digital information skills. Moreover, digital self-efficacy and trained-

in-service experiencing were important predictors; they demonstrated that the learning

resources affected more in teachers' skills than both social and demographic character.

Lastly, the paper addresses the impact of the study and also suggests more precise

interventions and further studies-Lev. 90n47 F. Maria, and Meri-Maai M.348 (2015).

(Loretta Saikkonen, and Meri- Tuulia Kaarakainen 2021)

Effects of internet utilization to academic performance

Mastering digital information skills matters not only in the professional realm but also in

academic life in the modern high-tech and information age. Indeed, the 21st century

education model presents the 21st century skills scale that places digital skills at its
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL HIGH SCHOOL

core. Teaching and learning digital skills are integrated when we follow the sequence

digital competences with teachers and students on one line and the development of the

digital culture with teachers and students on another.

Technological advances have essentially allowed for a move from univariate to

multivariate statistical analysis, which has become a method of choice, particularly for

regression analysis. Furthermore, in order to design and direct effective intervention

programs aimed at specific contexts, a \deeper understanding of social resources

possessed by individuals and their connections among predictors is required. The

purpose of the study was to ascertain how sociodemographic factors and the availability

of resources predict digital information skills of teachers and also to identify groups, they

would have been inclined to help in case of interventions.

The study surveyed 4,988 Finnish teachers who provided questionnaire data and

performance test results. Based on multiple regression analysis, the authors observed

that digital activity and age were the primary precursors of variance in teachers' digital

information skills. With increasing digital activity, the tendency for skill mastery was

significantly higher, while skill mastery declined with age. Moreover, digital self-efficacy

and in-service training remained significant predictors that signify available resources

have a more impactful role in teachers' digital information skills than sociodemographic

factors. Finally, the article is concluded by the authors, presenting the practical

implications of the study findings, giving suggestions for more focused interventions,

and suggesting areas for future research.

CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter describes the methods employed in undertaking this study.

It explains the research design used, the study's locale, the respondents, the

instrument, the procedure for gathering data, the ways of establishing validity and

reliability, and the statistical treatment.

Design

This study will use a Descriptive-Correlational research design. Generally.

descriptive studies is to describe individual events, or conditions by studying them as

they are in nature. The researcher does not manipulate any of the variables but rather

only describes study can explore multiple variables, it is the only design that can also

explore a single variable. Descriptive studies look at the characteristics of a population,

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL HIGH SCHOOL
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

___
22

identify problems that exist within a unit, an organization, or a population, or look at

variations in characteristics or practices between institutions or even countries (Sandra

L. Seidlecki, 2020).

Correlational research is one kind of nonexperimental study that helps with the

prediction and explanation of the link between variables (Euclid Seeram 2019).

Research activities seek to determine whether variations exist among a population's

attributes based on the subject’s exposure to a relevant event within a naturalistic

environment. (Lau, Francis 2017).

Locale

The Research will be conducted at Negros Occidental High School (NOHS) the

subject of the study are the students of the above mentioned school notably the

Technical -Vocational -Livelihood (TVL) Track, Grade 12 Computer System Servicing

(CSS) students of Negros Occidental High School (NOHS) situated at Araneta-Hernaez

Street, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Philippines. One of the oldest schools in the

region, it was founded in 1902. NOHS, with its rich history of providing quality

education, has become one of the well-known schools in the province (Negros

Occidental Provincial Government).

Respondents

Participating were the Grade 12 Computer System Servicing (CSS) students of

Negros Occidental High School. This was followed by expanding the sample size to

further understand their opinions, thereby enhancing the validity of the results. The
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL HIGH SCHOOL
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

motivation for this approach was to try to obtain a more complete data set from the

questionnaire responses that were circulated between the participants.

The sample size of the study will be computed using Slovin’s formula with a margin

of error equal to 0.05. The formula is given by the expression.

where:

n is the sample size

N is the population size

e is the margin of error

Using Slovin's formula which is used to calculate the sample size necessary to

achieve a certain confident interval when sampling a population, the sample size of this

study will be 124 participants from a population of approximately 200 Grade 12 CSS

students.

Simple random sampling will be used for the sampling technique. It is where each

member of a population has an equal chance of being selected, ensuring unbiased

representation in the sample. With all of the factors applied, 33 students from each

section will be chosen to answer the instrument.

Instrument
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL HIGH SCHOOL
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

___
24

The researcher utilized a self-made questionnaire to elicit the level of internet

utilization of the grade 12 Computer System Servicing (CSS) students in Negros

Occidental Highschool with regards to their academic performance. The instrument

begins with a short letter to the respondents, stating the purpose of the survey and

requesting them to fill out the questionnaire as honestly as possible, and assuring them

that their responses would be treated with confidentiality.

The second part of the tool contained some descriptors. If a specific descriptor is

familiar to them or has been experienced by them, they need to check the appropriate

column of their choice as to its level.

Validity and Reliability

Before the self-made questionnaire was used to collect data, it underwent validity and

reliability testing.

Three experts who evaluated the instrument and verified its face validity were consulted

by the researcher. Following that, they attempted to examine its content and provide

ratings to the items based on Lawshe's Content Validity Ratio and the standards

established by Good and Scates (1954). According to the Good and Scates standards,

the jury's overall score of 4.89 is considered to be valid. (See "Appendix"). The

researcher completed the questionnaire after taking into account the jury of Lawshe's

CVR experts' input. The total score was 1, indicating that every item was deemed

necessary and had to be included. (Refer to the appendices.)

Following finalization, the questionnaire underwent reliability testing to determine the

items' accuracy. Around 30 respondents who were not included in the survey but whose
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL HIGH SCHOOL
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

___
25

qualities closely resembled those of the intended respondents were given the

questionnaire. After that, the responses were totaled and processed to determine

Cronbach's alpha. According to Taber (2018), the reliability test value of.85 indicates

that the data is reliable. (Check out the Appendix.)

Data-gathering Procedures

Upon approval of the validators, the researcher prepared a self-made

questionnaire and established its validity and reliability. Once the instrument was found

valid and reliable, the researcher personally administered it to the selected respondents

and collected the accomplished forms after they were done. The researcher then tallied

the responses. The data gathered were eventually analyzed and interpreted.

Statistical Treatment

To enhance the significance of the collected data, it is essential to apply suitable

statistical methods. To assess the overall internet utilization of Gr 12 students about

Ethical Consideration

This study took into account the ethical principles described in the generic

research ethics.

All respondents reached out to voluntarily participate in the study. All actions

that protect the respondents’ trust and confidence were undertaken. Only respondents

who are legally age and capable of making a decision been informed if they would like

to participate with regards to the study. They were informed about the purpose behind

the study and assured that the information they share through their response would be

treated confidentially.

For individuals below the age of legal consent, we engaged parents or

guardians throughout the entire process. We also discussed our research project with

them, explaining their child's role in detail and ensuring they understood and were

comfortable with their child's involvement. We solicited permission from the young

participants only after full consent had been obtained from parents. Combining this

collaborative way of working with individual autonomy of both children and parents

within a system of shared accountability that requires transparency fosters trust

throughout the entire process. To ensure the respondents' privacy, the respondents'

name or identity was not disclosed, and no respondents' identities were revealed at any

point of the research. The data obtained from the questionnaires will be stored securely

and when this research is completed will be destroyed in accordance with provisions

under the Data Privacy Act of 2012. By implementing this approach, it ensures that all

participants' integrity and confidentiality are restricted in accordance with ethical

CHAPTER V

FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The research sensitivity study, which is used to determine the internet utilization

of Grade 12 Computer System Servicing (CSS) students and what contributes to their

academic performance. As technology becomes more entrenched in education,

deciding how students access the internet, whether for educational or amusement

material, is essential in evaluating its fulfillment of message sections of student learning.

This determines the common, motive and type of online activity that Grade 12 CSS

students had and its correlation on their academic performance in course. The research

examines different patterns of student internet use, as well as potential correlations with

grades by combining survey results and academic performance. The study examines

areas that include online research, use of social media and educational resources.

Conclusions

Train test data (up to October 2023): 93% male, 33 students in each of the 3

sections. Both boys and girls showed high use levels of the internet, with boys being

slightly higher.

As for the overall performance for both girls and boys was high, boys performed

slightly better than girls and the best performance was achieved on the Authenticity

section of the tests.

Internet use and academic performance did not vary by sex or section,

according to statistical analysis. Here, we also found a slight positive correlation

between internet use and academic performance, though this might not be more

indicative about success than the actual studying or motivation practices that could

drive academic performance to be better.

Recommendations

Taking into account the outcomes of the investigation and the reasoning made

about the relationship between the use of the Internet and the logging in of students,

this study suggests the following actions:

Let the parents, teachers, and the school administrators stay alert to the

Academic performance of students alongside their use of the internet because it is

necessary to refresh, if already discussed with them, how the students should

constructively use the Internet especially in doing academic works to avert negative

consequences such as unsatisfactory grades or failure to pass exams. In addition,

students should try to actively incorporate non-internet-based learning into their studies

as the focus should be internet as an academic tool on online learning sites, educational

video and multimedia libraries.

Future researchers may study other reasons for cut and its influence on

academic performance in different classes and levels.

The suggestions given here, when followed, can integrate the use of the internet

in education in a way that is efficient and beneficial to all in the learning environment.
