HISTÓRIA DEL JUEGO
ICO nos cuenta la historia de ico, un niño con cuernos que tras ser encerrado en un castillo por
la gente de su pueblo al creer que los niños nacidos con cuernos
ICO tell us the story of Ico, a boy whit horns that is locked in a castle because in his village it is
believed that being born with horns brings a great curse. When Ico manages to escape from
his prison he met a girl named Yorda who also locked in a castle and they decide escape
together form the castle.
ICO is a videogame of action-adventure, platform and puzzel, was developed by team ico
where the roles of the director ( Fumito Ueda ) and the musical composer (Michiru Oshima )
stand out, was released in 2001 in America and Japan and one year later in 2002 in Europe for
the consol play station 2. The game was originally developed in play station 1 but due to
technical limitations the game was developed in play station 2. The reception was very good
but during his launch it didn’t have good sales, even so playstation allowed the development of
a sequel that was released years later.
JUGABILIDAD
The number of character actions is very limited, in the game the character can: Jump, attack,
grab objects and other actions less important like interact with levers or push blocks. But
where the game shows its full potential is in the game design of his levels.
In the game there are two types of levels fight against enemies and puzzle whit platform. Many
of the fight levels can pass them without having to fight since many times when you leave the
area you can eliminate them all and many times being the most comfortable option as combat
is a bit boring, but this breaks part of the setting of the game. Exchange the puzzle levels are
the best of the game, in them the scenario present some kind of problem that we have to
solve with our skills.
APARTADO TÉCNICO
-Music: I believe that for a soundtrack to work perfectly, you need to know how to use it at the
best moment. And this ICO make it great, making there is no song in the middle of the levels
but when the game want gave us some feeling the music plays and the moment impresses.
-Graphics: All the graphics of the game are very minimalist, (Even the Japanese and Europe
cover copies a minimalist painting style of the artist Giorgio de Chirico, a mainly surrealist
artist) this concept it can be seen in the form of the walls, trees and others elements of the
levels which presents simple shapes and colors, that transmit a great visual beauty.
NARRATIVA
One of the motives that make that this game was so well rated was his narrative. Usually in the
videogames the story is told by cinematics or dialogues, but in ICO there are at most five
cinematics and much of the story is told while you play and the characters interact with each
other to solve puzzles or fight.
This made that ICO was a unique game and that it was compared to other videogames like:
another world, the first prince of Persia and flashback, which had a similar narrative style.
CONCLUSIÓN
The game is very amazing and although it has boring mechanics ICO is a unique experience.
