CHRONICLES OF DCE 2025

OFF STAGE EVENTS – RULES & REGULATIONS


1. Essay Writing (Tamil)

• 🗒 Topic: Will be given on the spot at the venue.

• Word Limit: Write between 500 to 800 words in Tamil (30 mins)

• What’s Not Allowed:

o Mobile phones

o Notes, books, or internet use

o Any form of external help

• Judging Criteria:

o Original ideas and personal expression

o Proper structure (Introduction, Body, Conclusion)

o Clear and logical flow of thoughts

o Grammar and language proficiency

• Important:

o Plagiarism or copying others’ work will lead to disqualification.

o Maintain silence during the event.

2. Essay Writing (English)

• 🗒 Topic: Announced on the spot by the organizers.

• Word Count: Must be between 500 to 800 words in English (30 Mins)

• Disallowed:

o Use of mobile phones, internet, or reference materials

o Getting help from anyone

• Judging Based On:

o Freshness and uniqueness of ideas

o Proper essay format and structure

o Grammatical accuracy and vocabulary usage

o Overall clarity and organization


• Note:

o Essays must be handwritten.

o Any form of cheating will result in immediate disqualification.

3. Debate (Tamil)

• Team Size: 4 members per team.

o 2 members present arguments.

o 2 members handle rebuttals and conclusions.

• ⏱ Time:

o Each speaker: 3 minutes to present

o Rebuttal speakers: 2 minutes rebuttal + 1-minute summary

• 🗣 Language: Tamil.

• Judging Criteria:

o Strength and clarity of arguments

o Confidence and voice modulation

o Quality of rebuttals

o Proper teamwork and time usage

• Do:

o Speak clearly and stick to the topic.

o Be respectful towards opponents.

• Don’t:

o Interrupt others.

o Use offensive or personal comments.

o Make inappropriate gestures.

4. Debate (English)

• Team Size: 4 members per team.

o 2 for opening arguments

o 2 for rebuttals and conclusion

• ⏱ Time Allotted:
o Speakers: 3 minutes each

o Rebuttals: 2 minutes + 1-minute final wrap-up

• 🗣 Language: English only.

• Judging Will Focus On:

o Logic and reasoning behind arguments

o Use of facts or data (if applicable)

o Fluency, pronunciation, and stage presence

o Respectful debating and rebuttal handling

• Warnings:

o No reading from papers or phones

o No shouting or personal insults

5. Drawing

• Theme: Will be given on the spot.

• ⏱ Time Limit: 1 hour

• Materials:

o Participants must bring their own pencils, brushes, etc.

o Only manual drawing is allowed (no digital tools).

o The organisers will provide water colours

• Size: Paper will be provided (A3 )

• Judging Criteria:

o Creativity and originality

o Relevance to the theme

o Artistic skill and presentation

• Not Allowed:

o Tracing, copied work

o Mobile phones or internet use during the event

6. Mehandhi (Henna Design)

• Individual Participation
• ⏱ Time Limit: 1 hour

• Allowed Materials:

o Own henna or organisers will provide henna

o Synthetic or colored dyes are not permitted

o Participants should bring another person of the same gender to apply henna and
that person should be registered in the form too !

• Judging Based On:

o Neatness and clarity of design

o Intricacy and detailing

o Cultural relevance and aesthetics

• Reminders:

o Participants must not use any reference picture

o No physical assistance from others

o Avoid unnecessary physical contact during application

7. Nail Art

• Individual Participation

• ⏱ Time Limit: 1 hour

• Materials:

o Participants must bring their own nail paints, brushes, plain extensions and tools

o Pre-made stickers, artificial nails, or designed extensions are not allowed

• Evaluation Criteria:

o Creativity in design

o Precision and cleanliness

o Overall presentation and theme relevance

• Guidelines:

o Maintain hygiene and use skin-safe materials

o Participants should do their own work without external help

o Keep physical contact to a minimum

8. T-Shirt Painting
• Theme: Will be announced at the venue.

• ⏱ Time Limit: 1 hr

• Materials:

o the organisers will provide a plain white/light-colored T-shirt

o Paints will be provided but the participant must carry the brushes.

• What’s Expected:

o Design must be hand-painted (no stencils, no prints)

o Must relate to the theme

• Judging Criteria:

o Creativity and originality

o Neatness and clarity of the message

o Use of colors and balance

• Important Rules:

o Participants should not exchange materials

o Work independently without interference

09. Face Painting

• Theme: Announced on the spot.

• ⏱ Time Limit: 1 hour

• Materials:

o Participants must bring the brushes , paints will be provided .

o Only skin-safe products are allowed — no toxic or allergic substances

• Participation:

o Solo or pair (one paints, one models)

• Judging Criteria:

o Creativity and originality of design

o Relevance to the theme

o Neatness and overall execution

• Important Rules:

o Keep physical contact minimal and respectful


o No offensive, political, or culturally insensitive content

o Ensure hygiene throughout the event

10. Meme Creation

• Mode: Digital (laptop/tablet/phone allowed)

• Theme: Given on the spot

• ⏱ Time Limit: 45 minutes

• Rules:

o All memes must be original and created during the event

o You may use digital tools (Canva, meme generators, etc.)

o Include your name on your submission

o 3 rounds will be conducted

• Judging Will Focus On:

o Creativity and humor

o Relevance to the theme

o Visual clarity and message

• Disallowed:

o Offensive, vulgar, or discriminatory content

o Use of copyrighted or pre-made memes

11. Photography

• Theme: Revealed at the beginning of the event

• ⏱ Time Limit: 30 mins

• Device: Any camera or phone with camera is allowed

• Editing:

o Basic editing (brightness, contrast, etc.) is allowed

o You must also submit the original (unedited) photo for validation

• Judging Criteria:

o Creativity and uniqueness

o Composition and use of lighting


o Storytelling through the image

• Rules to Follow:

o No stock photos, no previously taken images

o Do not tamper with others’ setups or disturb anyone

12. Dubsmash

• Preparation:

o Participants must come with pre-selected clips/songs

o Ensure content is family-friendly

o Participants should record the reel inside the college premises in the given time
frame 1 hr

o Max reel length 1.5 mins

• ⏱ Time Limit: 1 hr

• Solo or Group Performance

• Required submissions 2

• Evaluation Based On:

o Lip-sync accuracy

o Expressions and acting

o Creativity and overall entertainment value

• Strictly Not Allowed:

o Vulgar language or inappropriate content

o Excessive or suggestive body language

o Use of props that may cause disturbance or harm

13. Turn Coat

• What is it?: A solo speaking event where the participant switches between supporting
and opposing a topic

• Topic: Given on the spot

• ⏱ Structure:

o 30 seconds prep time

o Participant should switch their perspective ‘for & against’ alternatively to the buzzer
• Judging Criteria:

o Fluency and coherence

o Logical and persuasive arguments

o Smooth transition between perspectives

o Confidence and body language

• Tips & Rules:

o Avoid repeating the same points

o No reading from paper or phone

o Stay respectful even while opposing the topic

14. Adzap

• Concept: Create and perform a fun, creative advertisement for a product or concept.

• Product/Theme: Given on the spot.

• ⏱ Time Limit:

o 3 minutes for performance

o 3 minutes prep time after theme is given

• Team Size: 3 to 5 participants

• Judging Criteria:

o Creativity and originality

o Clarity of message

o Humor and entertainment

o Team coordination and stage presence

• Rules:

o No use of vulgar, offensive, or misleading content

o Minimal props allowed; no large setups

o Avoid excessive or inappropriate physical interaction

o Use language and humor that is appropriate for all audiences

15. Lip Sync Battle

• Concept: Perform a song with perfect lip-sync, expressive acting, and stage presence.
• Music: Participants must bring their own tracks in advance (USB/phone)

• ⏱ Time Limit: Maximum 2 minutes

• Solo or Duo Performance

• Judging Will Be Based On:

o Lip-sync accuracy

o Energy, expressions, and stage charisma

o Creativity and crowd engagement

• Do’s and Don’ts:

o Props are allowed (small and manageable)

o Simple choreography is encouraged

o No offensive or vulgar songs, gestures, or outfits

o Maintain personal space — no close physical contact

16. Dumb Charades

• Concept: A classic guessing game where one acts out a word/phrase, and the team
guesses it.

• Team Size: 3 to 5 members

• Category: Movie names, personalities, objects, etc. (announced before the game)

• ⏱ Time Limit: 1 minute

• Rounds: Multiple rounds depending on time and tie-breakers

• Judging Criteria:

o Speed and number of correct guesses

o Creativity in acting

o Team coordination

• Rules:

o No speaking, mouthing words, or writing

o No pointing to actual people or objects in the room

o Use only gestures and facial expressions

o Avoid physical contact unless it’s part of the action

o Stay within the designated area.


17 Rangoli

• Concept: Create a decorative Rangoli design based on a given theme using colored
powders.

• Theme: Announced on the spot.

• ⏱ Time Limit: 1.5 hours (90 minutes)

• Participation: Solo or pair (max 3 participants)

• Materials:

o Participants must bring their own Rangoli color powders and tools.

o Only traditional white powder will be provided by the organisers

o Use of flowers, diyas, or grains are allowed

o Small stencils allowed for details, not for full designs.

• Judging Criteria:

o Creativity and originality

o Relevance to the theme

o Neatness and symmetry

o Color usage and presentation

o Completion within the time limit

• Rules:

o No pre-drawn outlines or external help allowed.

o Mobile phones and unfair aids prohibited during the event.

o Respect other participants’ space.

o Avoid offensive or inappropriate designs.

o Final decision rests with the judges.

General Event Guidelines (for all off-stage events)

• Registration: Must be done before the event day.

• Time Management: Respect all time limits. Late entries may be disqualified.

• Judging: Judges’ decision will be final and binding.

• Materials: Bring your own unless otherwise specified.


• Conduct:

o Maintain discipline and sportsmanship

o Avoid inappropriate behaviour or language

o Respect other participants and volunteers
