The Book of Daniel Chapter Nine: Part 3:
In Review
1. The 2,300 year prophecy is the greater whole of the
seventy week prophecy we studied in Daniel Chapter 9: Part
2.
2. If you recall seventy weeks were cut off, or set aside,
at the start of the 2,300 year prophecy to give the Jewish
nation, God’s chosen people a chance to allow their iniquities
to run their course and to repent.
3. Just as God predicted, however, His chosen people
didn’t repent forcing God to look to the Gentiles as spiritual
Jews to carry out is work here on earth.
4. The central theme of the seventy week, or 490 literal
year prophecy, as better worded, was Jesus’ work to
reconcile us lost sinners back to God the Father so we have a
chance at salvation and eternal life. Think of Hebrews 1:3
here; “3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the
express image of his person, and upholding all things by the
word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins,
sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:”
5. The entire seventy year prophecy revolved around the
first coming of Jesus, His ministry, death, and resurrection.
6. Because the 490 year (70 week) prophecy is part of
the 2,300 year prophecy we are about to cover, it should
2
come as no surprise that many verses of Daniel we have
already addressed will be revisited.
7. It also shouldn’t surprise you either that the 2,300 year
prophecy also revolves around Jesus, particularly His ministry
in the Heavenly Sanctuary. Much of the content we will be
looking at here will be reviewed from Daniel Chapter 8: Part
2: The Seventy Year Prophecy.
8. Bear in mind also, when the two timelines (the seventy
weeks, and 2,300 days) are combined and viewed as a big
picture, the beginning and end become clear, not just their
dates but also the importance of their connections to each
other become clearer.
9. When viewed as one whole we learn when Christ
came, when He died, when the Jewish probation closed, and
what would happen after their probation closed.
10. The two prophecies, when viewed as one allow us to
realize the importance of how interconnected the success of
the first is to the second and how both are necessary for the
hope of our salvation.
11. Though the teachings of these timelines are brought
to you independently, in two separate guides, it is vital to
realize they are both pieces of an important whole so try to
understand them as such.
3
The Basics of the 2,300 Year Prophecy
1. This timeline spans enough time to encompass the
ram, the he-goat, and the little horn of Daniel’s vision in
chapter 8.
2. It includes the 1,260 year prophecy we discussed in
“Daniel 7: Part 3: The Little Horn Speaking Blasphemy“, which
of course is referenced in Daniel 8:13 “13 Then I heard one
saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint
which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the
daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give
both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?”
This, as a reminder, is related to the persecution of Rome.
3. Jesus referred to this 1,260 year period as the “time of
the Gentiles” in Luke 21:24. We see this directly correlates
with the description of the Gentiles conquering the holy city
in Revelation 11:2 which they “tread underfoot forty and two
months.”
4. Babylon was not included in the vision of Daniel 8
because the 2,300 year prophecy started in the time of
Medo-Persia.
5. The end of the 2,300 year prophecy ended more than
1,800 years past the point of Christ’s death (1810 years to be
exact).
6. Up until the ending of the 2,300 year prophecy, Christ
dwelt in the Holy Place of the Heavenly Sanctuary where the
Altar of Incense was positioned in the earthy sanctuary
4
(remember that alter represented man’s prayers ascending
up to God).
7. At the close of the 2,300 year prophecy, in 1844 Christ
completed His ministration and moved into the Most Holy
Place to cleanse the Sanctuary.
8. The anointing “of the Most Holy” in Daniel 9:24
happened at Jesus’ death. The anointing was on the
Heavenly Sanctuary in preparation for the work that Christ
was due to commence within it at His resurrection and
ascension to heaven in A.D. 31 (Hebrews 9:12, 18-21).
9. Jesus had to fulfill His role as our sacrifice on the cross
during the last week of the 70 week prophecy to inaugurate
His next role as high priest in the Heavenly Sanctuary. Thus,
we learn that the 70 weeks and the 2,300 days are closely
linked and depend on each other for a complete fulfillment.
10. Because Christ died on the cross and was raised again,
everlasting righteousness was confirmed. The inauguration
of His Heavenly Sanctuary’s ministry could then begin.
11. The three angels’ messages of Revelation 14:6-12,
which began to be proclaimed at the end of the 2,300 days
(after 1844) with the message of the everlasting gospel,
could reach fulfillment because of what Christ accomplished
on this earth.
12. If Christ failed, both the 70 weeks, and the 2,300 day
prophecies would have failed entirely.
5
The Remaining 1810 Years
1. If we take our 2,300 days, and subtract the 490 (or
seventy week) prophecy from it, (remember the seventy
week prophecy was cut off from the 2,300 days) we are left
with 1810 years.
2. The 490 years ended in the autumn of A.D. 34
remember.
3. If we add 1810 years to A.D. 34 it brings us to the
autumn of A.D. 1844. It is this date that the 2,300 day
prophecy ends.
So What is Significant About 1844?
1. Our answer to the significance of 1844 can be found
in Daniel 8:13 and 14: “13 Then I heard one saint speaking,
and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake,
How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice,
and the transgression of desolation, to give both the
sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? 14 And he
said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days;
then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.”
2. It is when the Heavenly Sanctuary will be cleansed.
6
The Cleansing of The Sanctuary
1. As we learned in Chapter 8: Part 2: The Sanctuary, the
typical day to cleanse the sanctuary was the “Day of
Atonement”. So when was this day in 1844, after all what
other day would the cleansing of the Heavenly Sanctuary
begin on? None that would prophetically work.
2. The Day of Atonement in 1844 fell on October 22,
exactly 2,300 years after the initial decree in 457 B.C. to
rebuild Jerusalem.
3. As we have already learned in “Daniel Chapter 8: Part
2: The Sanctuary”, the sanctuary of the Christian era, the new
covenant time, the time after Jesus returned to heaven, our
time, whatever name you best understand it to be, is found
in heaven.
4. Evidence that the work being done in the earthly
sanctuary was transferred to the Heavenly Sanctuary at Jesus’
death and resurrection can be found in Matthew 27:51
”51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from
the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the
rocks rent;”
5. What man could rip the tapestry dividing the holy
from the most holy sections from top to bottom? It was God
saying the time of Moses’ laws and with them the animal
sacrifices were over.
6. Furthermore it can be recalled that the Second
Desolation (refer to the Abomination of Desolation study
7
guide) speaks of the destruction of the earthly temple in
Jerusalem in 70 A.D. (it is also alluded to in Daniel 9:26.) This
is further proof that the Sanctuary being referenced is the
Heavenly Sanctuary wherein Jesus currently resides.
7. The temple’ veil between the Holy Place and Most
Holy Place was rent in twain from top to bottom (proving it
was God’s hand that tore it) because the earthly sanctuary’s
services was no longer needed. No more rams, bulls, goats
and lambs needed to be slain for Jesus the true “Lamb of
God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29) had
been sacrificed.
8. Christ needed to die in order to make atonement for
our sins.
9. If He had not made that sacrifice, the cleansing of the
Sanctuary could not have commenced in 1844 because His
blood would not be available to blot out or cleanse the sins
of His people.
10. The 2,300 day prophecy was guaranteed to come to
termination based on the success of Christ during the first
phase of the prophecy, during the 70 weeks.
11. Just as surely as Christ succeeded in fulfilling the first
phase of the prophecy at the end of the 70 weeks, the work
promised to reach its conclusion at the time of the cleansing
of the Sanctuary at the end of the 2,300 years was also
fulfilled.
8
12. The Heavenly Sanctuary is where Jesus ministers on
our behalf, pleading the shedding of His own blood for the
remission of our sins.
13. It is Jesus’ ongoing work that prevails in the work of
salvation for perishing men (Zechariah 6:13; Psalm 85:10).
14. We have already seen that the cleansing of the
sanctuary consists in the removing of the sins from it.
15. This cleansing is the closing act of the ministration
performed in the Heavenly Sanctuary; the work of salvation
which now centers in the Heavenly Sanctuary. When that
sanctuary is cleansed, the work is done.
16. When his cleansing occurs, the great plan of salvation
created even before Adam and Eve fell in the Garden of Eden
will be brought to its final termination.
17. At the point of completion, mercy no longer pleads
on our behalf, and the great voice will be heard from the
throne in the Heavenly Temple saying, “It is done.”
(Revelation 16:17).
18. At this point, what happens? It is simple, all the
righteous will have the gift of everlasting life; and all the
wicked are doomed to everlasting death. Beyond that point,
no decision can be changed, no reward can be lost, and no
destiny of despair can be averted.
19. Reviewing the vision in Daniel chapter 7 will enlighten
our spiritual understanding of the cleansing of the Heavenly
9
Sanctuary: “I watched till thrones were put in place, and the
Ancient of Days was seated… The court was seated, and the
books were opened.” Daniel 7:9-10 “One like the Son of Man,
coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient
of Days… and a judgment was made in favour of the saints of
the Most High.” Daniel 7:13,22
20. The above is a picture of the Ancient of Days (God the
Father), taking a seat, and opening the books, which contain
the record of each person’s life. The Son of Man (Jesus)
comes to His Father with the angels, “the clouds of heaven,”
and judgment is made in favour of the saints. Because of the
blood of the Lamb of God, sins are forgiven, and the record
is cleansed. This is Gabriel’s explanation of Daniel 8 and 9.
The cleansing of the Heavenly Sanctuary began in 1844 A.D.,
and it will end when Jesus returns to set up His eternal
kingdom here on earth.
The Solemn Judgment Hour
1. This is the same judgment we looked at in “Daniel
Chapter 7: Part 2: The Great Judgment” so it is recommended
to review that guide for more detail.
2. The long prophetic period which marked the
beginning of this final judgmental work in the Heavenly
Sanctuary has met its termination in 1844.
3. Since 1844, the time of the final judgment of man’s
eternal fate, whether it is to eternal life or damnation has
been underway.
10
4. The judgmental work involves an examination of every
man’s character, for it consists in the remission of the sins of
those who shall be found worthy to have them remitted, and
it determines who among the dead shall be raised.
5. It also decides who among the living shall be given
immortal bodies at the coming of the Lord, and who, of both
living and dead shall face the fearful scenes of the second
death.
6. It is understandable why this work must be completed
before Jesus comes again.
7. Every man’s destiny is to be determined by the deeds
done in the body. Each one will be rewarded according to his
works (2 Corinthians 5:10; Revelation 22:12).
8. God, through His heavenly scribes, keeps record of
every man’s deeds by which He will be judged (Revelation
20:12).
9. In the closing of The Sanctuary’s work, these records
are examined, and decisions are rendered in accordance with
the findings (Daniel 7:9-10).
10. It is natural to suppose that the work would begin
with the first members of the human race (Adam and Eve),
that their cases would be first examined, and a decision
rendered, and so on with all the dead, generation by
generation. It would end with the generation of the living.
11
11. As far as the progress in the heavenly judgment is
concerned, no man can know when the cases of all the dead
have been examined and when the cases of the living have
been reached.
12. One thing we do know, since 1844 this solemn work
has been going forward.
13. This work moves swiftly in the Heavenly Courts. John
saw millions of attendants and assistants engaged with our
Lord in His priestly work in Revelation 5. This is proof that
the ministration goes forward. It ceases not, it delays not,
and it must soon be forever finished.
14. The plan of salvation is quickly drawing to a close; the
precious years of probation are almost ended.
15. The Lord is about to come to save those who are
ready and waiting and to cast asunder the careless and
unbelieving.
16. The world is in a stupor, deceived with error, crazed
with cares and business, delirious with pleasure, and
paralyzed with vice.
17. Let those who wish to spend eternity with our Lord
Jesus escape the snares that Satan has set in the world
drawing his trapped victims into eternal damnation like flies
to a web.
12
So What Happens When Judgment Is Done?
1. In Daniel 9:27 it is declared that after soon following
the destruction of Jerusalem by the Roman power that “the
desolator” itself (Rome) will face destruction.
2. Jesus will stand up and say “11 He that is unjust, let
him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still:
and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he
that is holy, let him be holy still. 12 And, behold, I come
quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man
according as his work shall be.” Revelation 22:11-12.
3. At this point, Heaven will be emptied. The entire
heavenly host, with Jesus at its head, will descend to earth to
save the righteous and slay the wicked.
4. There are several other events which surround Jesus’
Second Advent, but we’ll save them for some other study.
How to Receive Eternal Glory
5. Firstly we must realize what Christ did on the cross,
and what He is now doing in the Heavenly Sanctuary is all
part of the plan of salvation. He works tirelessly for our
salvation and wants desperately for us to accept His sacrifice
on our behalf. Realizing this is the first step in obtaining
eternal glory.
13
6. Consecrate oneself to the care and keeping of Jesus
our Lord. (James 4:7: “7 Submit yourselves therefore to God.
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”)
7. Test all things according to His Word to avoid
deception. (1 Thessalonians 5:21 “21 Prove all things; hold fast
that which is good.” Isaiah 8:20 “20 To the law and to the
testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is
because there is no light in them.”)
8. Believe on Jesus’ work as Saviour. (John 3:16 “16 For
God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have
everlasting life.”)
9. Keep all of His commandments (John 14:15 “15 If ye
love me, keep my commandments.” Revelation 14:12 “12 Here
is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the
commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.”).
10. Cast aside all sin (Hebrews 12:1 “1Wherefore seeing
we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of
witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which
doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race
that is set before us,”).
11. Trust on Jesus fully (Proverbs 3:5 “5 Trust in
the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own
understanding.”).
12. Do this and you will receive eternal life, for as you can
see, it is written.
14
So What Now?
1. We are in a dying world. As Jesus, our High Priest,
moved into the Most Holy room of the Heavenly Sanctuary
in 1844 to start the final judgment the seventh angel’s
trumpet began to sound (Revelation 11:15,19).
2. We need to realize how important Christ’s work is on
our behalf. His intercession for us in the Sanctuary is an
essential part in the plan of salvation as was His death upon
the cross. By His death He began that work which, after His
resurrection He ascended to complete in heaven.
3. From a practical standpoint, we need to ponder
Christ’s sacrifice for us every day and consider His work on
our behalf in the Heavenly Sanctuary. He labours to cleanse
us from sin. We need both aspects in salvation; the
forgiveness and the cleansing.
4. The work performed in this temple is the foundation
of the third angel’s message of Revelation 14, the last cry of
mercy to this dying world.
5. The work in the Sanctuary harmoniously fulfills the
2,300 day prophecy and unseals the once obscure
prophecies of the book of Daniel for all in the time of the
end to understand (Daniel 12:4).
6. This prophecy reveals the work of salvation in its
totality.
15
7. It shows the preparatory work we need to do in
anticipation of Jesus’ coming.
8. Above all though, it brings the blessed hope that if we
but accept Jesus’ glorious gift of grace and eternal life while
we still can, before probation closes, we too can follow Him
into paradise.
