This course is designed for beginners. In this course, students will learn basic Japanese grammar and words. Students will also
practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Students are expected to memorize words and read the grammar notes prior to class. It will take approximately - min. to
prepare for each class.
This course provides a comprehensive approach to develop four basic language skills listening, speaking, reading,and writing to
enhance students overall Japanese language ability.
Note that the nd edition of the textbook will be used in the course. Make sure to choose the nd edition when you purchase
course materials.

This course is designed for those students who need to learn basic grammar and everyday vocabulary in a highly intensive manner.
The course covers lesson contents of Comprehensive Japanese and and the lessons will proceed at double the pace of these
courses. The classes meet five times per week from Tuesday to Saturday. Students will have a minute lesson each day. Either
a vocabulary or a grammar quiz is given on a daily basis. Students are expected to study new vocabulary, and to read the
grammar explanation section in the textbooks for the quizzes and preparatory work for each lesson. At least TWO to THREE
hours of out-of-class study time will be required for preparation for and revision of a daily lesson
. To master two syllabic scripts i.e. hiragana and katakana , grammar and sentence structures, vocabulary at elementary level.

Kanji For Nonnative Kanji Learners Sp Fa
Course outline
This class is designed for students with no prior knowledge of Chinese characters and wish to start learning kanji and/or to establish
solid foundation for learning kanji. In this class,students will learn the meaning of kanji components, how to use and write kanji, and
basic kanji words. At the completion of the course, students will be able to write and comprehend basic kanji in context.

In this class, students are required to make a presentation in simple Japanese. Those students without any knowledge of Japanese

This class is for upper beginners. You will have a talk with your group member or make a speech to your class about a familiar
topic, checking basic Japanese grammar and words.
Objectives
The goal of this course is to enable you to have a conversation about a familiar topic with upper basic Japanese grammar and
words.
No textbook
Note
In this course, students will think back on the significant moments in their lives, list them chronologically, and then endeavor to
explain the most significant point or theme orally and on paper in Japanese. Naturally, you learn to explain yourself through the
answering of your classmates questions.
More specifically, students will learn how to read and write both hiragana and katakana, as well as a lot of useful expressions
for talking about oneself. Overall, this course seeks to blend speaking practice, writing practice, and critical thinking skills while
thinking about both our past and future.
This course aims for students to be able to express your thoughts and understand other s thoughts in Japanese.

Dictionaries arevery useful in this course, so if you have a dictionary, bring it to class.

If necessary, theinstructors will assist students with typing on a Japanese keyboard.
There s no textbook used for this class, so there s no set curriculum regarding vocabulary andgrammar instruction or
acquisition.
This is acommunication class, so the focus is on meaning and expressing oneself clearlyin Japanese, not on memorizing
grammatical patterns or kanji.

This class is for students with Japanese level. Students with Comprehensive Japanese would be desirable
In the Japanese language,there is the Polite Speech and the Casual Speech and in this class, we will practice the Casual
Speech which is used when you talk with a friend.
During the first weeks, we will use Romaji alphabet letters for those who cannot read Hiragana and Katakana, but from the
rd week, we will not use Romaji anymore.
The grammar in Casual Speech is very difficult, so preview and review are required for about to minutes every week.
The objective is to become able to make the difference between how to speak to a senpai someone older or more experienced,
here a senior schoolmate and a teacher , and how to speak to a friend , and to become able to speak a lot in Japanese with a
friend.
OJAD
This course is generally designed for students at the preliminary level. We will practice pronunciation of Japanese monosyllable,
words, phrases and sentences in class. This course aims to be conscious and understand accent, rhythm and intonation through
practice. We also will practice phrasing using Online Japanese Accent Dictionary OJAD . Students will record speeches
for checking own pronunciation and teacher s feedback. Also, we will present conversation and speeches as activities.
The objective of this course is to enable students to learn Japanese pronunciation thorough practice as below.

This course is designed for students in the Level Japanese language courses. It is aimed towards students at levels from I can
only say my name in Japanese to those who think I can use simple sentence patterns, but I don t know how to put what I really

This course is designed to engage students in a discussion of the different aspects of culture, to build cultural awareness. They will
compare and contrast several aspects of culture, using personal examples.
Students are expected to explore their own ideas and opinions on some cultural issues and engage in working together in pairs or

Express yourself in Japanese by collaborative learning Sp Fa
Outline of the Course: In this course the students are expected to discuss themselves and their surroundings. And they write to
summarize. Through these activities students will learn the Japanese language.
Under the themes such as myself , myself and others , and myself and the surrounding society , the classroom activities will
take a place. Each theme has small project. This project must be submitted for each class.
The third part of the course will include a mini-trip in Tokyo in small groups to learn about the old and new things of Tokyo.
After the trip the students will do presentations about their trip and create individual report on the experience.
The mini-trip will not take a place within the class time. Students will complete their mini-trip outside of class time in groups
Ueno or Nihombashi are possible destinations for these trips.
Studying Japanese language by yourself is most likely difficult and boring. Let s learn various words and expressions through
interaction with classmates. This class focusses on learning actively and collaboratively.
Goal of the class: You will be able to talk about yourself and what you want to say.
You will learn how to develop Japanese through group activities.
Japanese expression will be developed by discussing common themes and collaborating with others.

Focusing on Japanese Pronunciation Sp Fa
This class is aimed for beginning learners of the Japanese language. In this course, we will learn and understand important
points of pronunciation single sound, pausing, rhythm, accent,intonation . Using this knowledge, students in this class will
practice speaking about topics useful to the learner focusing on the accurate application of the rules learned. Timely feedback
will be provided by the teacher and classmates in order to develop understanding and knowledge of pronunciation. In addition,
learners will develop self-monitoring skills by being able to identify pronunciation standards while listening to both their own
pronunciation and that of others, by listening and speaking opportunities in class. A vocabulary rhythm and/or accent quiz is
given every class. Students are expected to go look up and learn the accent of each vocabulary item on a weekly list before coming
to the class.
During the final examination students will be tested on their knowledge of pronunciation
rhythm, accent, and intonation , and the students awareness of the characteristics of their own pronunciation.
The students will be expected to submit a recording of their pronunciation which will be evaluated based

In this course, we will consider a language by observing and rethinking how language is actually used in the city that have a
diversity of people living including in classes, on campus, etc. . We will focus on places that are a part of our daily lives, such as
the facilities on campus, convenience stores, or cafes. We will then examine how we use language within these places, and explore
our language.
