Warning notice system
This manual contains notices you have to observe in order to ensure your personal safety, as
well as to prevent damage to property. The notices referring to your personal safety are
highlighted in the manual by a safety alert symbol, notices referring only to property damage
have no safety alert symbol. These notices shown below are graded according to the degree of
danger.
DANGER
indicates that death or severe personal injury will result if proper precautions are not taken.
WARNING
indicates that death or severe personal injury may result if proper precautions are not taken.
CAUTION
indicates that minor personal injury can result if proper precautions are not taken.
NOTICE
indicates that property damage can result if proper precautions are not taken.
If more than one degree of danger is present, the warning notice representing the highest
degree of danger will be used. A notice warning of injury to persons with a safety alert symbol
may also include a warning relating to property damage.
Qualified Personnel
The product/system described in this documentation may be operated only by personnel
qualified for the specific task in accordance with the relevant documentation, in particular its
warning notices and safety instructions. Qualified personnel are those who, based on their
training and experience, are capable of identifying risks and avoiding potential hazards when
working with these products/systems.
Proper use of Siemens products

TIA Portal Version Control Interface

The Version Control Interface of the TIA Portal allows you to connect an external version control
program to the TIA Portal. This allows you to easily store your project data in your preferred
versioning program, version it and import it back into the TIA Portal.
SIMATIC TIA Portal add-ins
You will receive support for add-ins when you install "TIA Portal Openness". Add-ins enable you
to extend TIA Portal to include your own functions. You can integrate these functions into the
user interface of TIA Portal via shortcut menus.
You create the program for this with C# and the TIA Portal Openness API. Add-ins must be
available as .addin files and be saved in the installation directory of TIA Portal.
You manage your add-ins and activate them in the new "Add-ins" task card.
You can find additional information in the section "Extending TIA Portal functions with add-ins"
of the information system.
TIA Portal Support Gateway
With the TIA Portal Support Gateway, you can directly access selected online content from
Siemens Industry Online Support (SIOS). You can search in the forum and view additional
information, such as FAQs or manuals, about the products used in the TIA Portal project.
In addition, the TIA Portal Support Gateway helps you to create support requests: It enables you
to export relevant system and project data so that this data is available later when you create a
support request.
SIMATIC TIA Portal Openness
Compatibility and long-term stability
Siemens.Engineering.dll files
The Siemens.Engineering.dll files of V14 SP1, V15, V15.1 and V16 are included in the scope
of delivery. This means that applications based on TIA Portal V15, for example, can also run
with TIA Portal V16 without modification. To use the new functions of V16, you have to
include the Siemens.Engineering.dll file of V16 and recompile the application.
The Siemens.Engineering.dll files of the compatible versions are located in the installation
directory under "PublicAPI\[version]\". For example, the Siemens.Engineering.dll file for V15
can be found under "C:\Program Files\Siemens\Automation\Portal
V*\PublicAPI\V15\Siemens.Engineering.dll".
Export of SimaticML files

The Siemens.Engineering.dll files V14 SP1, V15, V15.1 and V16 create SimaticML files of the
TIA Portal version V16 during export.
Import of SimaticML files
Each Siemens.Engineering.dll file can be used to import SimaticML files of its own version
and past versions. For example, a SimaticML file of the V15 can be imported with the
Siemens.Engineering.dll V16. A SimaticML file of the V16 cannot be imported with the
Siemens.Engineering.dll V15.
New functionality
The following new functions and innovations are available in TIA Portal Openness V16. For more
details on the various topics, refer to the corresponding sections of the product documentation.
User-specific marking for devices and modules for unique identification
Querying of online checksums of PLCs for hardware and software
Support for software units
Support for export/import of technology objects
Support for OPC UA server configuration and interface configuration
Support for Version Control Interface (VCI)
Extension of the CAx export and import, such as:
- AR APC V1.1 support
- Using objects from the library
- Support of Base Units for ET200SP modules
Extension of the support of the hardware configuration of assemblies and modules, such as:
- OPC UA server configuration and user management
- Certificate management
- Web server configuration and user management
- Watch tables for web server and display
Support for the configuring of WinCC Unified
Support for SiVArc:
- Creation and modification of the SiVArc rules
Support for safety engineering with set password for the safety program
