as HIV?"

- "Have you recently had any procedures or treatments that penetrated your skin or body
cavity?"

- "Can you tell me about your current nutritional status?"

Planning

2. Location of Running Water and Soap:

- "There are various types of faucet controls, such as hand-operated handles, knee levers,
foot pedals, elbow controls, and infrared sensors."

7. Wet Hands and Wrists:

- "I will wet my hands keeping my hands lower than my elbows so the water will flow from
wrist to fingertips”

8. Apply Soap:

- "I will apply soap to my hands, using 4-5 mL (1 tsp) of liquid soap”

9. Thoroughly Wash and Rinse Hands:

I'll thoroughly wash my hands, using firm rubbing and circular movements on the palms,
backs, and wrists, including the heel. Then, I'll interlace my fingers and thumbs, moving
them back and forth.
Following the WHO recommended steps:

- "a. Right palm over left dorsum with interlaced fingers and vice versa."

- "b. Palm to palm with fingers interlaced."

- "c. Back of fingers to opposing palms with fingers interlocked."

- "d. Rotational rubbing of left thumb clasped in right palm and vice versa."

- "I will continue this motion for at least 30 seconds."

10. Rub Fingertips Against Palms:

- "I will rub my fingertips against the palm of the opposite hand to ensure thorough
cleaning."

11. Rinse Hands:

- "I will rinse my hands under the running water, holding my hands lower than my elbows."

12. Pat Dry Hands and Arms:

- "I will pat my hands and arms dry thoroughly with a paper towel or clean hand towel,
without scrubbing.

13. Discard Paper Towel:

- "I will discard the paper towel in the appropriate container."

- "I will turn off the water using a new paper towel to grasp the hand-operated faucet."

Conclusion

"Now that my hands are clean, I am ready to proceed with your care. Thank you for your
patience."
GLOVING TECHNIQUE

Review and Planning:

1. Review the Client's Record

- "I'll start by reviewing the client's record and orders to determine the specific procedure
requiring sterile gloves."

- "I'll check the client's record for any latex allergies and use nonlatex gloves if necessary."

2. Think Through the Procedure

- "I'll plan the procedure steps before applying the gloves."

- "I'll determine any additional supplies needed and have an extra pair of gloves available."

3. Assemble Equipment

- "I'll gather the packages of sterile gloves."

Implementation:

Preparation:

4. Determine Glove Size and Package Sterility

- "I already have that correct size of my sterile gloves, ensuring they are snug but not tight."

- "I'll ensure the sterility of the glove package."

Performance:

5. Introduction and Explanation

“Prior to performing procedures, introduce your self and confirm client’s identity. Explain
to client what are you going to do and why is it necessary and tel them how they can
cooperate. And ensure the client privacy to avoid discomfort “

6. Hand Hygiene

- "I'll perform hand hygiene and follow infection control procedures."

8. Open Glove Package

- "I'll open the outer wrapper and place the inner glove package on a sterile area.”

- "I'll carefully open the inner package so the glove cuffs are closest to me and ensure the
flaps do not fold back and contaminate the gloves."

9. Put on the First Glove (Dominant Hand)

- "I'll pick up the first glove by the inner surface of the cuff using my non-dominant hand."

- "I'll slide my dominant hand into the glove, keeping my hand and fingers above my waist
and away from my body."
10. Put on the Second Glove (Nondominant Hand)

- "With my sterile gloved hand, I'll pick up the second glove by inserting my fingers under
the cuff."

- "I'll lift the glove away from the table and my body, then slide my nondominant hand into
the glove, avoiding contact with the outside of the glove."

11. Adjust the Gloves

- "I'll adjust both gloves to fit my fingers properly, pulling down the fingers of the gloves if
necessary to ensure there's no excess at the fingertips."

12. Maintain Sterility

- "I'll keep my hands between shoulder and waist level in front of me to maintain sterility."

13. Remove Used Gloves

- "After the procedure, I'll remove and dispose of the used gloves. If they are soiled with
secretions, I'll turn them inside out while removing them."

- "I'll perform hand hygiene again."

14. Document the Procedure

- "Finally, I'll document that sterile technique was used during the procedure."
