Group Two
Mukwano Industries is one of the leading manufacturers of plastic product in Uganda ranging
from cups plate basins batteries etc. The company has been paying the employees through a
manual system that has been tiresome, error prune and with so many duplications and omissions.
Currently the company is planning to computerize its pay roll to overcome the above-mentioned
problem for effective operation and performance. The company has a total of 32 full time staffs
and over 100 part-time staff throughout the country.
You are now tasked to create a computerized payroll in excel using the information/guidelines
below for all the full time staffs;
1. The company has 1 managing director, 1 general manager and 3 manager country wide and
a manager earns between 900000 and 1000000 as basic pay. The general manger earns
10% more than the manger and the Managing director earns 20% more than the general
manger.
2. They are a team of other staff that include 3 drivers with a pay of 400000, 4 Cleaners who
earn 280000, 4 packaging staffs who earn 310000 and 2 office attendants who earns 350000
3. The company also has 2 consultants, 1 senior consultant and 3 assistant consultants. Each
consultant earns between 850000 and 920000 as basic pay and the assistant consultant earns
8% less than the consultant and the senior consultant earns 15% more than the consultant.
4. The company employees 2 electricians, 3 mechanics and 3 IT Technical staffs. The
mechanics earn a salary of 600000, the electricians earn 15% more than the mechanics and
the IT staff earn 10% less than the managers earns.
Required
a) Using Names of your choice, generate a payroll for the above company using the
information above in Excel spread sheet using appropriate headings.
b) The company categories all its staff as follows; all those who earns 900000 and above are
categorized as Management, those who earn 800000 and above but below 900000 are
termed as experts, those earning 700000 and above but below 800000 are called technical
staffs and the rest are categories as Support staffs. Using a good Excel function, attach a
category to each staff using the scenarios listed above.
c) Each staff is entitled to an allowance per month as stated; all staffs in management are given 25% of
their salary plus 200000, all technical staff are given 18% of their salary plus 120000, all experts are
given 21% of their salary plus 180000 and the rest are given 12% of their salary plus 100000 as
allowance. Use an excel function to allocate the allowance to each employee.
d) Compute the take home pay for each employee given that each pays 11% of his or her pay as saving
per month.
e) Filter out all employees whose final pay is below 600000 and paste it on a new sheet and name it Low
pay.
f) Copy the original data on the first sheet, paste it on the new sheet named Pay per Category and
determine how much was paid by the company to each category of staff.
g) Draw a well labeled 3-D column graph showing the employee name with the basic pay and net pay
placed on a new sheet called Payments.

As a student who has acquired some foundation knowledge in ICT at Victoria University, you are

Group Six
The term ‘diabetes mellitus’ is used to describe a group of conditions characterized by raised blood glucose levels
(hyperglycaemia) resulting from an absolute or relative deficiency of insulin. In insulin-dependent diabetes, now
known as type 1, there is destruction of the pancreatic islet beta cells usually resulting from an autoimmune process
and insulin treatment is essential to maintain life. In non-insulin-dependent diabetes, type 2, a key abnormality is
resistance to the action of insulin and in the early stages of the disease insulin levels may actually be raised. In some
patients with type 2, the insulin producing beta cells of the islets in the pancreas may show a degree of failure at
some stage during the course of the disease process. Patients with type 2 are usually treated with ‘lifestyle
modification’ therapy, with or without oral blood glucose lowering agents.
In both the major types of diabetes, a range of metabolic disturbances occurs together with the raised prevalence of
hypertension amongst people with diabetes. The complications result chiefly from the effects of diabetes on the
arterial and nervous systems
