Prerequisites: None but students with knowledge of Classical Control (~EE250) can appreciate more
Objective of the course: The objective of this course is to equip students with a solid foundation of
modern control theory, with emphasis on state-space methods, system modeling, analysis, and controller
design. The course aims to develop the ability to analyze and synthesize control systems for linear as well
as nonlinear dynamic processes using modern tools and techniques.

• Vector spaces
• Modeling in state space, Linear (Linearized) systems
• Input-Output Maps from State space and vice-versa.
• Tools from linear algebra
• Canonical forms and similarity transformation
• Solutions to state equations
• Controllability, Reachability, and Stabilizability
• Observability, Constructability, and Detectability
• State-feedback pole-placement controller design
• Lyapunov stability
• Linear Quadratic Regulator
• Full-order and reduced order observer design
• Kalman Filter
• Linear Quadratic Gaussian controller design
• Loop transfer recovery
• Nonlinear systems, phase-plane analysis
• Feedback linearization
• Lyapunov-based controller design
• Brief overview on different directions of control theory

Grading Policy:

Mid Sem Exam- 30%


End Sem Exam- 40%
Quizzes -30% (There will be 6 quizzes, each carrying 5%, NO MAKE-UP EXAM FOR QUIZ.)
