 Abstraction
What is a Theme?
A theme is the central idea, message, or insight that a story reveals about life
or human nature. It is not the plot or the summary of the story, but what the
story is really about underneath the surface.

How to Identify a Theme:


 Look for patterns – What ideas keep coming up?

 Ask questions:1. What does the author want us to think about?


2. What lesson does the main character learn?
3. What does the story say about life or people?

 Use evidence – Find moments in the story that support your idea.
