Background
India’s energy efficiency market, valued at INR 150,000 crores according to Bureau of Energy Efficiency
(BEE) plays a pivotal role in advancing the country’s low-carbon growth agenda. Government
initiatives, alongside support from multilateral and bilateral partners, have catalysed innovative energy
efficiency programs across sectors, especially in industrial and building sector.
One such initiative under the GEF-6 project “Creating and Sustaining Markets for Energy Efficiency,”
led by United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and executed by Energy Efficiency Services Limited
(EESL) jointly with International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC) as Technical Co-executing
Agency. The program aims to reduce GHG emissions by promoting and scaling up of various energy-
efficient technologies and creating sustainable market ecosystems.
Further, EESL with support from BEE, is also leading the Demonstration of Energy Efficiency Projects
(DEEP) for scaling of innovative energy-efficient technologies in energy-intensive industries with the
Designated Consumers (DC) under the Perform Achieve and Trade (PAT) scheme. This project is helping
showcase industries the benefits of adopting these technologies to meet their energy reduction
targets under the PAT scheme, while driving market transformation and attracting investment.
Building operations, including heating, cooling, and powering, contribute around 28% of global CO2
emissions, according to the World Green Building Council. Within this, heating and cooling buildings
themselves account for a significant 15% of global carbon emissions. As buildings emerge as key
contributors to emissions, the initiative also extends to accelerating energy efficiency in commercial
and institutional buildings, ensuring a comprehensive, low-carbon future.
The workshop is structured with the following key objectives:
• Share insights on EESL programs and proven technology success stories
• Identify challenges and opportunities for adopting super-efficient technologies in industry and
buildings
• Encourage participation from stakeholders to adopt energy-efficient solutions in collaboration
with EESL
