Introduction to the IELTS Speaking Test
The IELTS Speaking test is an essential part of the IELTS exam. It is
designed to measure your ability to communicate effectively in English
through a face-to-face conversation with an examiner. Whether you're
planning to study abroad, migrate to an English-speaking country, or
improve your spoken English, doing well in this section can help you
achieve your goals.

This part of the test takes between 11 and 14 minutes and is divided into
three parts, each focusing on different speaking skills:

• Part 1: Introduction and Interview – You will answer questions

about familiar topics like your hometown, hobbies, or daily routines.
• Part 2: Long Turn – You will speak for 1–2 minutes about a topic
given on a task card.
• Part 3: Discussion – You will answer more complex questions
connected to the topic in Part 2, discussing opinions, comparing
ideas, and giving reasons.

Unlike other parts of the IELTS test, the Speaking section is conducted in
person, which allows the examiner to assess your pronunciation, fluency,
grammar, and vocabulary in real-time.

This book will help you:

• Understand the format and expectations of each part of the Speaking

test
• Learn useful phrases and strategies to improve your answers
• Build confidence through guided practice and speaking activities
• Track your progress with reflection and homework tasks

By working through the lessons in this book, you will develop the skills you
need to speak more fluently, clearly, and confidently during your IELTS
Speaking test.

Let’s begin your journey toward IELTS Speaking success!
