Methods & Modes of Presentation
Presentation is the mode of sharing information with a select
audience. It is a form of oral communication in which a person
shares factual information with a particular audience. In a good
presentation the speaker must interact with an introductory,
discussion and concluding. The role of the presenter is very
important, he has to identify his specific target audience, along
with their interests and needs and build a good rapport. For
rich and informative presentation, it is very important to create
humour, use anecdotes, use proverbs, should speak
respectfully with effective body language. Questions should be
given specific attention. A speaker may need to learn to cope
with discouraging remarks, must accept new methodology, to
motivate the audience. The immediate action a speaker has in
mind as a result of the persuasion of the audience. The aim of
persuasion is to change or modify their opinion. Effective
communication to our emotions, sort of persuasion, an appeal
to the intellect to face communication.
Modes of Presentation
Our manners, of presentation, our voice, use of grammar, our
perfect & formal pauses, use of proper expressions and
gestures. The presenter must be polite, interested and attend
to the audience. He must know how to say & elaborate. We
have to say. There are four modes of delivery that play three
roles in making presentation effective.
* Extemporaneous
* Speak with no advance preparation. When speaking
extemporaneously prepare notes before hand and practice the
presentation. There is no need to write out word for word the
whole talk. The strength of preparation here is that we can give
a fresh, spontaneous and enthusiastic speech. The weakness
here is that we might be talking along & might make a number
of irrelevant remarks.
* It is a good method for a topic, that we can present the
theme in the most appropriate way.
* Impromptu
* This mode of presentation makes no recourse to any advance
knowledge. It is a good mode for answering questions
responsibly and will give you a good confidence. Our
explanation is able to present responsibility in the best possible
structured way. This mode of presentation must be possible
with self confidence & enthusiasm. The weakness is that we
might look like an amateur & might make an error. We should
be able to update primary information and language. Our
presentation must be able to adapt with the audience so we
should be able to speak freely. We should be natural. We
should be around and spontaneous to enable us to make full,
free & confident delivery.
* Manuscript
* This mode of presentation makes no use of memory. We can
speak with no mistakes and will avoid irrelevant remarks. It is
useful for highly technical presentations. We can prepare a very
accurate presentation, but are not supposed to memorize the
speech. The weakness is that we might be reading & will
appear in a monotonous tone.
① Unfortunately, most speakers are not good readers. They
create dull and monotonous situations. Through incorrect
approach, we can witness the problem. For effective and
impressive delivery, reading is not an ideal activity, but, still we
can be adequately familiar with the text we have and have
complete control on what we have to say.
② Whatever we have to say, it is permanent and a reliable
record. We have no chance of playing with points and figures.
The only alternative is to organize the material. Language
should be as easy to follow.
③ We need our eye contact. It may not be as thorough, while
reading we cannot talk to the audience. It is not much use for
universal communication but it can be a vital link. There may be
faults due to expertise and local inflections.
④ Impromptu = "Impromptu mode"; what we use when we
have to deliver an off-the-cuff speech, without preparation."
Most speeches are impromptu. Speaking in an extemporaneous
way. This calmness, naturalness, support with one another,
examples, quotes, anecdotes, facts, we can recall at that time.
Now briefly summarize. Do briefly as possible deep impromptu
presentations.
⑤ Since we don't get enough time to make any elaborate
presentation, we should be very mindful. We get a chance to
address our thoughts, or what we feel, what others say, or
what we are spontaneous as we can make what we feel, not
what is ought to say.
⑥ There is no structure of time. Which does not provide time
to one part. Presentation of ideas. Organized development of
ideas. There is no supplementary material until now. And there
is no time for very depth. Discuss points. might give strength.
There is frequent use. To catch and phrase. Poor language
importance. many ways. There are carelessness, aimlessness.
Many are to give reputation as an important speaker. There is a
positive correlation between command, effectiveness and up-
ward mobility.
⑦ Memorization is for most if all. This method is the worst.
We are a very difficult. Very limited capacity of otherwise.
⑧ Why most speeches during the assembly and fear,
nervousness and fear. If memorization is awkward and hateful.
Memorization is a good way of remembering. In between
setups are an and a manuscript presentation. Speech is written
before hand of the memorized. and final talk is delivery. Not all
can achieve. Stage fear, personal insecurity, tension and crisis.
Memorization encourages the speaker to maintain eye contact
with the audience throughout the presentation. The speaker
has self confidence and command easily. This enables him to
make appropriate non-verbal communication. He can add extra
value to the speech. The speaker has the chance to finish the
speech in allotted time.
Memorization takes too much time. This may create dull
situations. There is a chance of making a dull and memorized
presentation. The speaker goes through what he has
memorized. Therefore, the inherent chance to forget and
errors in very essential. He must be so flexible that a delay
during the speech or a deflection in flexibility is possible. There
is every possibility of the speaker to face nervousness. He may
forget points, or if the audience can say anything unpleasant
that can disturb the speaker.
Extemporaneous modes form natural, flexible, native. It has its
effectiveness, but if not made to make the presentation more
easily. Effective and memorable presentation is an important
objective of the presenter. During the delivery of the speech,
the speaker must design the idea and analyze the audience in
advance of presentation time. It is important to organize the
important talk for the audience. The analysis of the audience is
important and must be followed by the analysis of the objective
of presentation, intelligence and comprehension. The analysis
of the audience may vary from category to category. An
analysis of the environment and the organization and
arrangement must precede the awareness of the purpose of
the presentation and audience needs. The speaker should be
well acquainted with the subject and be aware of the
environment of the presentation. The central idea of the
presentation should be explained. The supporting points will
follow it to make the audience feel a pleasant smile. At the end,
he may close the speech with a pleasant smile. Content, time,
useful points, concentration, interest in the topic, new
information, elaboration of share of nervousness, flexibility,
ability to remember, and if any comment or any feeling
capability about presentation, must be appropriate. The
methods of presentation are a viable, effective presentation.
