ICDS (Integrated child development Services Scheme) Program
ICDS scheme is launched on 2nd October, 1975
Today, ICDS scheme represents one of the world's largest and most unique
programmes for early childhood development.
Objectives of ICDS Scheme
The Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme was launched in 1975 with the
following objectives:
To improve the nutritional and health status of children in the age-group 0-6 years.
To create a base for proper mental, physical, and social development of the child.
To reduce the incidence of mortality, morbidity and malnutrition.
To achieve effective coordination of policy.
To provide health and nutritional information and education to mothers of young
children to enhance child rearing capabilities of mothers in country of India.

MID-DAY MEAL PROGRAMME
Mid-Day Meal Programme or Supplementary school feeding programme was started in 1925
in different parts of India.
Objectives of Mid-Day Meal Programme
Protecting children from classroom hunger
Increasing school environment and attendance
Improving socialization among children belonging to all castes
Addressing the issue of malnutrition among children.
Rationale for the Programme
The mid-day meal programme for educational programmed primary schools
Implementation of the programme for the children aged between 6-11 years.
Features of the Programme
Supplying of food items providing 300 calories per day and 12-15 g protein per child
with coverage of primary school children in a phased manner
States should evolve suitable logistics and make arrangements for cooks helpers
administration, supervision, and monitoring.
Important Elements of this Scheme
The scheme should cover all children in primary classes in government and local bod
school
Mid-day meals should be provided on all working days.
CARE assistance, should be excluded.
Cereals and to the extent possible pulses, edible oils and condiments should be
supplies the schools through authorized state agencies.
National Nutritional Anemia Prophylaxis Programme
The programme was launched in 1970 to prevent nutritional anemia in
mothers and children.
The programme consists of distribution of iron and folic acid tablets to
pregnant women and young children (1-12 years)
Mother and child health (MCH) centers in urban areas
Primary health centers in rural areas and ICDS projects are engaged in
the implementation of this program.
