IELTS Writing

How to paraphrase?

I. Using synonym

- Synonyms = words that have the same meaning

E.g:

good - fine, excellent, great

bad: awful, terrible, horrible

- When you paraphrase using synonym, you just replace the exact words

E.g:

I go to work everyday.

-> I go to the office every day; I go to work daily, I commute to work every day

- Many trees have been cut down.

-> Multiple trees have been cut down; Many plants have been cut down, Many trees have been killed

- Where to look for synonyms?

You can look for synonyms in “thesaurus dictionary” (Oxford/Cambridge).

BUT: Remember, words only have similar meanings in specific contexts (trong ngữ cảnh nhất định):

E.g: good – excellent; advantageous

You did a very good job

-> You did a very excellent job.

x: You did a very advantageous job.

So, check the dictionary again for the correct use!

Some ways to change the structure:

- Passive < > active voice (câu chủ động & câu bị động)

- Reason < > result (nguyên nhân & kết quả)
