b) (i) State the torque-slip characteristics of induction motor. (8)
(ii) An induction motor has an efficiency of 0.9 when the shaft load 45Kw.At (5)
this load stator ohmic loss and rotor ohmic loss each is equal to the iron
loss. The mechanical loss is one third of the no-load losses. Neglect ohmic
losses at no load. Calculate the slip
12. a) Describe the construction and principle of operation of a 3 phase induction (13)
motor with a neat sketch. Explain why a rotor is forced to rotate in the
direction of rotating magnetic field.

b) (i) Draw the power flow diagram of a 3Φ induction motor and explain each (8)

(ii) A 4 pole, 50Hz, 7.46 kW motor has, at rated and frequency, at starting (5)
torque of 160 percent and a maximum torque of 200 percent of full load
torque. Determine: 1) Full load speed 2) Speed at maximum torque.

Blocked rotor test : 100 V, 45 A, 2730 W

Construct the circle diagram and determine the line current and power
factor for rated output and maximum torque. Assume stator and rotor cu
losses equal at stand still.
