ABSTRACT
Fuzzy Linear Programming (FLP) is an extension of classical linear programming designed
to solve problems that involve uncertainty and vagueness. It integrates fuzzy set theory with
optimization to handle imprecise coefficients and constraints. This paper discusses the
fundamental concepts of fuzzy logic, fuzzy numbers, and membership functions. It presents
formulation techniques for FLP problems, including Zimmermann's approach and alpha-cut
method, and applies these through real-world case studies.
The study also explores applications of FLP in engineering, economics, and management,
and examines the challenges in implementing fuzzy models. The conclusion provides insight
into ongoing research and future trends in FLP.
1. INTRODUCTION
Linear Programming (LP) is a foundational optimization tool in mathematics and operations
research. However, in real-world situations, information is often imprecise. To model this
vagueness, fuzzy set theory introduced by Zadeh in 1965 allows degrees of membership
and flexibility in constraints and objectives.
Fuzzy Linear Programming (FLP) arises from combining LP with fuzzy logic. It addresses
problems where objective function coefficients or constraint bounds are fuzzy numbers
rather than precise values.
