Two Port Network Parameters

The document discusses two port networks, which consist of two pairs of terminals used to describe their behavior in terms of voltage and current. It covers various parameters such as impedance (z), admittance (y), transmission (ABCD), and hybrid (h) parameters, along with conditions for reciprocity and symmetry. Additionally, it includes examples and methods for evaluating these parameters and interconnecting two port networks.

TWO PORT NETWORK PARAMETERS

Introduction
• A two port network or two terminal pair network or four terminal network is a
network having only two pairs of accessible networks ;usually one pair
represents the input and other represents the output.
• We may apply input signal at one port and obtain an output signal at the other
port.
• The parameters of two port network completely describes its behavior interms
of voltage and current at each port.
• They are very common in electronic systems, communications systems,
transmission systems and distribution systems.
• Two ports containing no source in their branches is called
passive port.
• Two ports containing sources in their branches is called
active port.
• Power transmission lines and transformers – Passive port
Electronic amplifier- Active port
Impedance Parameters (z parameters)
Condition for reciprocity and symmetricity
• A network is said to be reciprocal if the ratio of response to excitation is
invariant to interchange of the positions of the excitation and response of
the network.
• Condition for reciprocity

Condition for symmetry

A network is said to be symmetrical if its input

and output ports can be interchanged without
changing port voltages and currents.
