SAFE OPERATING

PROCEDURES
COFFEE MACHINE

DO NOT use this equipment unless you have been instructed in the safe use
and operation and have been given permission.

PRE-OPERATIONAL SAFETY CHECKS


1. Ensure that you have had specific instruction and training in the proper use and care of the espresso
machine.
2. Electrical equipment must be isolated from the main electricity supply and the water when not in use.
3. The operator should seek permission from the teacher before using equipment.
4. Always check that the equipment is in good working order.
5. Check all adjustments and settings carefully before commencing any operation.
6. The work area should be clean and free of rubbish and other obstacles.
7. Faulty equipment must not be used. Report suspect equipment immediately.

OPERATIONAL SAFETY CHECKS


1. Do not leave the espresso machine running unattended.
2. Beware of latent heat. The espresso machine will hold heat for quite some time.
3. Switch the expresso machine off immediately after you finish using it.
4. Clean the steam wands and check the steam heads for burnt milk.

HOUSEKEEPING
1. Make sure the espresso machine is isolated from power source and completely cooled down prior to
cleaning.
2. Always keep the espresso machine clean and free from spills after use and empty drip tray regularly.
3. Back flush daily. Clean steam wands regularly throughout service until end of day clean down.
4. Clean the stainless steel with warm soapy water and a soft cloth.
5. The drip trays and steam heads can be removed for washing.
6. Wipe the control panel down with a slightly damp cloth then sanitise.
7. Be aware that some cleaning agents can damage stainless steel.
8. Leave the work area in a safe, clean and tidy condition.
