Vitamin D is a fat soluble steroid hormone that comes in two forms Vitamin
D2(ergocalciferal) and vit D3 (cholecalciferal).
25-OH2 Vitamin D is the most active form of Vitamin D but have a very short half
life, therefore 25-OH Vitamin D is a metabolite that is the most reliable clinical
indicator of Vitamin D status. Vitamin D levels are indicative of body's storage
levels of vitamin D and correlate with the clinical symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency.
Vitamin D deficiency may be linked to chronic disease such as cancer.(breast, colon,
& prostate),Cardivascular disease ,Osteoporosis,Osteomalacia and several autoimmune
diseases among others.
