CB Timing Test
Why We perform CB Timing Test?
To Determine closing and opening time that Circuit breaker spent
during closing and opening operation according to that we can
determine general Status of Circuit breaker mechanism.
Most Common Devices that used to perform test:
1. Megger Egil +B10E
2. Circuit Breaker Analyzer CBA 1000
3. TM1600+B10E
CB Timing Test
What is the benefits of Using (B10E Kit)?
Providing different ranges of Voltages that Can Simulate decaying of dc
Voltage or Increasing of dc Voltage with Specific range that determine the
ability of perform Closing and opening during this Conditions.
CB Timing test will perform With Using devices:
Megger Egil +B10E

CB Timing Test
Close Coil test Voltage (90V-125V-140V)
Trip Coil-1 Voltage(70V-125V-140V)
Trip Coil-2 Voltage(70V-125V-140V)
CB Timing Test
Close pulse= time required to energize Close coil
open pulse= time required to energize open coil
Close time= close pulse Time(Until Energize only) + Close time of Mechanism of CB
open time= close pulse Time (Until Energize only) + open time of Mechanism of CB
Recommended That Follow FAT Test Values OF (Close Pulse - open pulse- Close
time- open time)
CB Timing Test
1-Opening Time Test
Why we recommend to take Pulse Time 30ms?
Because CB Close Time range (30-40 msc)
CB Open Time range (20-30 msc)
So 30msc Pulse time will in Case of Opening and
Closing will be enough Value to Energize Coil of
Tripping and Coil Of Closing
CB Timing Test
1-Closing Time Test
Why we recommend to take Pulse Time 30ms?
Because CB Close Time range (30-40 msc) Closing Pulse
CB Open Time range (20-30 msc)
So 30msc Pulse time will in Case of Opening and
Closing will be enough Value to Energize Coil of
Tripping and Coil Of Closing
CB Timing Test
1-Close – Open (C-O Time Test)
C-o test simulate Switch On to Fault Test
(SOTF)
Consist of : Close Pulse
1-Close Pulse :30msc
Close to open
2-Close To open (Delay time) :50ms
3-Open Pulse:30msc open Pulse
CB Timing Test
1-Open-Close – Open (OCO Time Test)
OCO test simulate Auto reclosure Open Pulse
Consist of :
1-Open Pulse : 30msc
Open to Close
2-Open To Close:300ms (Supplier Recommendation)
(this Value is big to prevent Close on Fault (transient Faults )
3-Close Pulse: 30ms
Close Pulse
Close to Open
4-Close To open (Delay time): 0.15ms
5-Open Pulse: 30msc Open Pulse
CB Timing Test
O-0.3-CO-3 Min-CO
Delay times (0.3 Min & 3 Min) Called Dead time that Allow :
1-CB Poles Cool Down to Avoid deformation Of poles During Arc
2-this time help insulation Medium to recover it properties
CB Timing Test
Results for O-C-O TEST Shall Match FAT Test
CB Timing Test
Difference between Phases Shall not Exceed (2ms) .
CB Contact Resistance Test
Why We perform Contact Resistance Test?
To check the quality of Connection Such as Connected by
Welding or pressing or plug For Circuit Breaker and Its results Shall
be in Micro –Ohm
Most Common Devices that used to perform test:
1. MOM
2. DLRO
DLRO Wiring Diagram
• Inject 100A DC
• Perform Test For Each Pole (R-S-T) And Compare Results With FAT test
• Results Shall be
CB Insulation Resistance (IR test)
IR during Close Circuit Breaker:
1-Phase To Phase Test (R-Y & R-B & Y-B)
• Inject 5 KV For 1 Min For Each Phase
• Results Shall be >100 Mega-Ohm
CB Insulation Resistance (IR test)
IR during Close Circuit Breaker:
1-Phase To Earth Test (R-E & B-E & Y-E)
• Inject 5 KV For 1 Min For Each Phase
• Results Shall be > 100 Mega-Ohm
CB Insulation Resistance (IR test)
IR during Open Circuit Breaker:
1-Phase (R &Y & B ) to check no Contact Between Circuit Breaker Contacts
During open position .
• Inject 5 KV For 1 Min For Each Phase
• Results Shall be > 100 Mega-Ohm
