Introduction
In an era defined by rapid technological advancement and digital transformation,
computer science has emerged as the engine driving innovation across nearly every
sector. With a profound passion for technology, a strong academic foundation, and an
unwavering ambition to contribute meaningfully to this dynamic field, I am applying for
the Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Technology at East China University of
Science and Technology (ECUST). My goal is not only to receive a world-class education
but also to leverage the skills and knowledge I acquire to develop cutting-edge solutions
to real-world problems. I am also applying for a scholarship, which will support my
academic pursuits and enable me to focus fully on excelling in my studies and
contributing to the university community.
Academic Background and Motivation
From an early age, I found myself deeply intrigued by the inner workings of computers
and digital systems. Growing up in a rapidly evolving technological environment, I
became increasingly curious about how computers function, how software is
developed, and how technology can be applied to improve lives. During my high school
education at Free Pentecostal Global Mission High School, which I attended from
September 20, 2020, to August 24, 2023, this interest grew into a resolute ambition to
pursue a career in computer science.
I consistently excelled in subjects closely related to technology, such as mathematics,
physics, and computer science. My strong performance in these disciplines reflects
both my natural aptitude and my dedication to understanding complex concepts. I was
particularly drawn to problem-solving tasks, algorithms, and logical reasoning
exercises. I also took the initiative to enroll in additional computer science courses
outside of the school curriculum, including programming languages like Python and
Java, data structures, and basic web development. These self-initiated studies helped
broaden my understanding and solidify my decision to pursue computer science as my
academic and professional path.
Additionally, I actively participated in science competitions and technology projects
throughout my high school years. These experiences not only reinforced my technical
abilities but also honed my teamwork, leadership, and communication skills. Whether
designing a simple software application, developing an algorithm, or troubleshooting a
system error, I found great satisfaction in solving challenges and creating something
valuable through technology.
Post-High School Engagements: A Timeline
Since graduating from Free Pentecostal Global Mission High School in August 2023, I
have remained actively engaged in strengthening my computer science skills and
preparing for university-level studies. This period has been crucial for self-directed
learning and practical application, reinforcing my commitment to this field:
* August 2023 - Present: Continuously pursued self-study in advanced programming
concepts and data structures. I have deepened my understanding of Python and Java,
and began exploring C++, focusing on competitive programming problems to hone my
algorithmic thinking.
* September 2023 - February 2024: Completed an online certification course in Web
Development Fundamentals, covering HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and basic front-end
frameworks. This provided me with practical skills in creating interactive web
applications.
* March 2024 - Present: Actively engaged in online communities and forums dedicated
to computer science and programming, participating in discussions, troubleshooting
problems, and collaborating on small personal projects. This has allowed me to stay
updated on emerging technologies and learn from a global community of developers.
* April 2024 - Present: Began learning the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and
machine learning through online tutorials and introductory courses. My current focus is
on understanding core concepts such as supervised and unsupervised learning, and
exploring basic machine learning algorithms.
Why China? The Global Leader in Technology and Innovation
China’s remarkable growth and leadership in science, technology, and innovation have
captured the attention of the entire world. As an aspiring computer scientist, I am
inspired by China's achievements in fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics,
telecommunications, and big data. Companies like Huawei, Tencent, Alibaba, and
Baidu, as well as initiatives like “Made in China 2025” and "Digital Silk Road," are
evidence of the nation's commitment to becoming a global tech powerhouse. These
advancements demonstrate China’s dynamic ecosystem for research, innovation, and
entrepreneurship—making it the ideal place to study computer science.
Studying in China offers the unique advantage of learning in a technologically forward-
thinking society while gaining insights into the cultural, economic, and social factors
driving its innovation. Moreover, China's emphasis on educational excellence,
especially in STEM fields, and its investment in international education have created a
welcoming environment for global students.
By studying in China, I aim to immerse myself in a multicultural environment that will
not only broaden my academic horizons but also prepare me to work in diverse,
international teams in the future. I also view this opportunity as a chance to learn
Mandarin Chinese, one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, and develop
a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and society—skills that will undoubtedly
enhance my global competence.
Why East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST)?
My decision to apply to East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) is
driven by the university’s outstanding reputation, academic rigor, and innovative
approach to education. Established in 1952 and located in Shanghai—one of the most
